With the 9th pick in Round 2 of the 2021 Historical Draft the Phoenix Suns select:

REGGIE MILLER
Great pick. It was between Miller and English for me, and it was really close.

Artis was plenty athletic his first two years in Chicago. No issues there. By the end of his Bulls reign, he had already slowed down a lot. Even before San Antonio.

But first two years, no issue. That Artis is as athletic as Gobert.
Yeah I like late 70s Artis quite a bit, was just more confident in Gobert's defensive impact in the NBA (Gilmore's defensive footprint in the NBA is a bit fuzzy, probably due to age and injuries but the only above average defence he anchored in Chicago was in his first NBA season).

Just to expand or say it differently:

(1) If I were building a team in the regular NBA, I would take Moses over Artis because of Moses' mental advantage in terms of aggressiveness / assertiveness / dominating his opponent / making full use of his talent to destroy his opponent vs Artis more passive laissez-fair style of play.

I mean Artis has the skill and physical talent to be a 30ppg scorer in the NBA. He just didn't have the mentality. Moses Malone did. He was a killer out there. If you are building a regular NBA team, you want the killer. It is too hard to have a team loaded enough (in talent) to where Artis can add more than Moses can.

(2) However, in a league of All-Star teams that are loaded with scorers, I reckon Artis has a strong case as the better player vs Moses because of Artis superior ability to influence games in non-scoring ways.
If we are talking about ways to impact the game other than scoring, then Jokic is hands down the better player out of these 3. Imo, it's not even close. He's possibly the best player in the draft in that regard. His BBIQ is out of this world. He keeps everyone involved on offense, hence he keeps everyone happy. He's also a very good rebounder, a massively underrated PnR defender (elaborated on this yesterday) and a very good post defender.

English is one of the guys I was considering instead of Tiny, but ultimately I felt like a scoring (non-defensive) wing that has basically no 3 pointers (and thus hard to argue how he would shoot them) was not quite worth losing Tiny for.

With the 9th pick in Round 2 of the 2021 Historical Draft the Phoenix Suns select:

REGGIE MILLER
This pick is incredible. Miller would solve most of Giannis' issues against elite defences in crunch time - he was one of the greatest scorers of all time during his peak.

The ideal guy alongside Giannis. Low usage, elite mover off-ball, and a genuine sniper. Nice pick

Great pick and an even better fit next to Giannis!

I think Miller is the most overrated player history, that said, he is an excellent player to pair with Giannis.

Oh, that Reggie pick surprised me. I thought for sure you were taking somebody else.

Nice pick. Reggie was awesome on those Dream Teams. He would be awesome in this Historical League and in today's game with 3 pointers everywhere.

Was hoping to land Klay or Reggie this round. I got one of them and am real happy about it.

Now that is strange to me. Miller was a genuinely elite scorer who powered a decade of strong Pacer offences, his numbers were suppressed by the incredibly slow pace of the game when he peaked in the mid-90s and his scoring was additive in a way that others cannot replicate - Miller doesn't need the ball to drop his nightly "27 points" (that's his peak playoff scoring rate adjusted for pace) on sky-high efficiency against the toughest of defences.

There's a bit of an error on the front page. It says I drafted Archibald instead of English.

Found it quite tricky to decide upon who I was going to go with this pick. Ended up choosing the more old school guy.

With its second round pick, the Memphis Grizzlies select...

Artis Gilmore!
