Eh ...
1 - Why does it matter? The vast majority of titles on both sides were won before the shot clock, let alone the 3 pointer, were invented.
During my lifetime, the Lakers have won 6 titles while the Celts have won 1. During my time as an avid fan of the NBA, the ratio is 3-1.
That's the disparity that matters to me.
2 - Even if we decide to care about overall title counts, most of the Lakers ones shouldn't count and I think most people who aren't super casual understand that. Even the Lakers apparently didn't start counting the Minnesota titles until after the Magic era.
I want to see the Celtics succeed and the Lakers fail. Even better if the former comes as a result of the latter.
That said, the Lakers have inherent advantages over the Celtics and they always will. I think if you decide to see the success of one franchise as having an intrinsic relationship to the success of the other, you're guaranteeing that you will be disappointed and not fully appreciate the success the Celtics do enjoy.
It's pretty much guaranteed that the Lakers are going to win a lot more often than the Celtics. Look at the last decade. The Lakers were an appalling caricature of an NBA franchise, piling mistake on scandal on bad luck. Yet they still end up with a title because NBA superstars love to play in LA.
