Given that Butler, Davis and Kawhi were all traded in the last 2-3 years resulting in 2 titles and a finals appearance for their teams I am a little bit un easy that while we outdid all those teams with signing 3 all stars and trading for an all nba guard all star plus multiple very high picks and budding superstars we are still faraway from being real championship contenders.
Sure but how far away would we be from contending if Danny had traded Tatum or Brown for a single season of AD, Kawhi, or Butler, the team lost in the ECF or Finals anyway, and then that guy left in free agency?
The smartest play to try to win a title is to gather pieces that can let you be in the mix for a title for at least 3-5 years. If you put everything on a single season, chances are you'll get burned.
Just look at the Clippers right now. One playoff collapse in a weird season and suddenly the fate of their franchise for the next 5-10 years hinges completely on next season.
