Hard to believe melo is only two years older than horford
My favorite thing about that trade is that you got the 4th round pick. You lose the 3rd rounder but you can still round out your team well.
IDK...that drop from 3.16 to 4.30 is huge. Probably more than the value gained jumping from 2.16 to 2.1. I guess the crux of the matter is how Melo is actually viewed. If we're actually basing his value on his production and affect on the game, it's a bad trade. But if his value is being based on his subjective value, which is probably a bit higher due to his name still carrying a certain cache, than it is probably a good deal.
I think Carmelo is still pretty solid. A clear top 20 player TODAY. Melo has been stuck on a crappy team the last 2-3 years thats in transition with a bad coach and questionable management. In the right situation i think he is a very very valuable piece.
I had him ranked #30 per my super secret statistical model.
Per that model you potentially lost 0.20 pts in total score, which would be roughly the equivalent of a full win share.
But subjectively, having a second "go-to" scorer might very well overcome that difference.
Like I said yesterday, I'm using this draft as one big science experiment.
