Free agent guard Brodric Thomas has agreed to a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics, sources tell ESPN. Thomas had stops with Houston and Cleveland a season ago.

Here’s an in-depth piece about him heading into last season.

https://www.basketballinsiders.com/news/who-is-the-rockets-brodric-thomas/

TL;DR:

He’s from Division II Truman State, with a stop in JUCO as well due to grades.  Apparently had the ability to transfer to a Power 5 school for his final year,  but stuck with Truman State.  He’s 6-5, his best skill is passing.

He was also second-team All-G-League, and on the All-Rookie team in the G-League (in a rather abbreviated stint).

Sounds like he grew 4" while in college playing at a JUCO.  My understanding is that he had an injury his freshman year at Truman, had trouble with grades, so needed a year at a JUCO.  Growing 4" tends to make a big difference.  He is 24.  Sounds like he is worth a shot as a 2-way.  Needs to figure out the NBA pretty quickly if he is ever going to.

Plus we still have one regular roster spot open and TPEs of $5M, $10M, and $17M available.

Thomas grew up — both figuratively and literally — during that time period. Not only did he start to figure out what college basketball was like, but he grew four inches. He averaged 14.6 points per game as the Spartans went 36-1 and won the JUCO national title. Thomas was named the MVP of the national tournament, having plenty of Division I coaches contacting him.

Excellent! Another shooting guard who can’t shoot.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

His shooting needs work but he shot 41% from 3 in the G-League last year so there's hope. He looks very active and can run the point.

He shot only 57% from the free throw line, which stinks. He has a lot of work to do. His turnovers are also 3-3 with his assists. He's very athletic but needs to play under better control.

the reasons he is not on an nba team are obvious. but PBS seems to want him. i guess as a potential-guy that is fine for the second two-way spot.

PBS liked him more than the guys already on the pre-season team, so, let's see how he does.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Over the last few years Ainge has given the 2-way to players with possibly an elite skill but that needed development elsewhere

Waters...elite on the ball defense on the perimeter
Fall...elite height
Hauser...elite three point shooting and form
Dozier...not elite but great college scorer.

It seems like they look for a guy with a great skill that they want to develop and then round him out as a total player. They just haven't seemed to be looking for those okay to good players that do a bunch of things well but none great that seem to have littered their training camp rosters over the years.

I know nothing about this kid Thomas but maybe someone who does could help me out. Is he a guy with a great skill that needs development elsewhere or more of one of those good at a lot great at nothing type guys?

He shot the 3 really well in G-League last year but he's not great. He's pretty athletic but not elite. He has a good handle. He reminds me a little of Richardson.
