BOS In: Kyrie Irving
BKN In: Al Horford, Dennis Schröder

Back to the Big 3 that could have been, sans AD, but a huge chip on Kyrie’s shoulder:

Irving/Pritchard
Smart/Richardson/Langford
Brown/Nesmith/Hernangomez
Tatum/Williams/Parker
Timelord/Kanter/Fernando

Hah. Hah.

So you mean to say our starting 5 would be;

Pritchard
Smart
Brown
Tatum
Timelord

Troll? I do not. Fail to understand the ways of the Force, the troll does.

In all seriousness, the dollars work and you have to think someone is going to get Kyrie for cheap. Maybe Ime could turn him, JT and JB into the Big 3 we all envisioned. It would be an epic Hollywood-esque turn of events if we landed Kyrie and somehow it all led to a championship. That’s the sort of story that one could coin The Legend of Kyrie. Exactly the sort of story that would motivate Kyrie, especially if part of the story involves revenge against KD for implicitly signing off on such a trade. Plus, this idea led to the natural next step in the conversation: Kyrie is now such damaged goods that likely only Philly and us would consider him. Maybe Simmons can be snatched.

We gotta do something outside the box because most of our cap is tied up in JT and JB, and there’s no Big 3 coming through that door unless we suck our way to a top pick this year and get lucky with who we draft, or think heavily outside the box.

There are two all-NBA talents on the trade block in Kyrie and Simmons with record-low value for players of their caliber. How can we use this rare opportunity to benefit us?

Sometimes you have to realize that those players, talented as they are, provide no benefit to us. A cheap Ferrari may be a great deal but would not be of use to a family of 6. You need to know what's going to be good for your needs, rather than trying to change your needs to fit what's available.

Well, Simmons might provide some benefit under the right circumstances. But Cryrie? Been there done that. The art of the good troll job is in making sure the suggestion is just plausible enough to make people fall for it. Chasing Cryrie kind of gives the game away.

There are reasons these elite talents are being sold low - Simmons is mentally fragile and Kyrie is insane.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

I want to trade Brown for Donovan Mitchell when DM gets bounced again and Brown spends half the year on IR.  Tatum with a leader who distributes the ball and sets him up would be amazing.  Yes, Brown will be really good in a couple years.  I get it.  But Tatum and Mitchell are more likely to win the East

Also, Kyrie didn't work. Kyrie clearly hates Boston as well.

Wanting him back is like wanting that toxic abusive ex back.

How soon we forget.

except they aren't being sold low, which is why they haven't been sold.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Simmons is a head case but also has some legitimate flaws.  He has not shown that he can shoot.  Philly has unrealistic expectations for what they can get back for him so correct, he is not being sold low, at least not yet.

Kyrie is beyond head case but is the real deal when actually playing.  Have not heard much on any potential trades for Kyrie.  Is it really clear what the Nets would want back for him?  I suspect it would not take all that much.  No way the Celtics would trade for him but some team might.  I think the Nets would sell pretty low unlike Philly who seem to expect the moon for Simmons.

So we all realize that, despite being a .500 team for far too long, #JKJB is the hashtag of the day. That said, what kind of hauls do folks think we could get for #JTJB (Just Trade Jaylen Brown)? We’ve clearly got two wannabe alphas and clearly we can only have one alpha, so if JB has gotta go then what kind of beta and gamma (or picks) can we possibly get in return?

I would also like to note for the record that every single trade I propose is allowable under the cap at the time the trade is envisioned. Thank you very much.

Greenly trades need a NBA2k  1st and second season simulation results post. Use that NBA2K to satisfy your trade desires lol.

NBA2K is fun and easy, but what’s hard is seeing our Celts linger in mediocrity seemingly whenever JT/JB play together…

No way could we get Dejounte Murray for Jaylen Brown. The former is a leader and alpha who is helping the Spurs punch way above their weight…

just because the trades are allowable doesn't make them good trades.

Latest idea come the off-season after Richardson’s option is picked up, especially after hearing that Portland is rebuilding with or without Lillard, so McCollum seems available:

To BOS: McCollum
To POR: 2023 BOS 1st, 2025 BOS 1st, 3rd Team 2024 1st, Richardson
To 3rd Team: Smart (as pass-through if needed to make the cap work)

Roster in the off-season, assuming we find a way to bring back Schröder and Horford:

Schröder/Pritchard
McCollum/Langford/Begarin
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum/G. Williams
Horford/R. Williams

Add the 2022 1st and a couple vets at the minimum, like this roster…perhaps McCollum can become a glue guy who gets JT/JB to live up to their full potential playing team ball? Definitely love McCollum as the third guy in a Big 3, and really see limited ways to get a Big 3…

Couple things.

First, Richardson doesn't have an option to pick up. He was extended and has a guaranteed contract for next year.

Second, there is no reasonable way of retaining Schroder as the best Boston could offer is the full MLE that would hard cap the team and is most likely too low for what Dennis will be looking to sign for.

Third, Horford is signed for next year. But it's not guaranteed fully. If Brad wants him, he just keeps him. But Brad does have the option of cutting him, thereby having only to pay $14.5 million instead of the $26.5 million if retained.

Fourth, the reason the Blazers have almost no one returning is because they are most likely going to be sold and new owners would want their new GM to have as clean of a slate as possible. That means no long term salaries, as much cap space as possible, lots of draft picks amassed and only good prospects as players retained, if possible. For that reason, Horford seems a better player to trade as he could be cut saving Portland $12 million in salary next season and getting rid of McCollum's future long term salary commitments. This also allows Boston to keep Smart. So if the trade happens before the draft, so that Portland can cut Horford, Boston could send their 2021, 2023 and 2025 first rounders instead of needing to find a third team to get that third first rounder to send Portland's way. If Portland wants some prospects, Brad could always include Mader and/or Bergarin and/or Pritchard. Pritchard did go to college in the area so that might spark some interest in him being added to the deal.
