I haven’t watched a lot of Josh Richardson, so I’m curious how people think he compares with Evan Fournier. They have different skillsets, but both play the SG/SF position. Career averages are quite similar. Did Brad make the right call?

Evan Fournier: 14.3pts, 2.7ast, 2.8 reb, FG%45 3PT%38, FT%80

Josh Richardson: 12.3pts, 2.8ast, 3.2reb, FG%43, 3pt%36, FT%83

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The problem with Richardson is his last two seasons have been not as good.  Perhaps being on a contract year will help elevate his play.  Fournier has been the better player, but it’s not impossible Richardson equals him for a season if he rebounds.

Based on the moves before the draft and now since free agency began, it looks pretty evident that Stevens was not planning on keeping Fournier and considered Richardson a cheaper Fournier replacement from the beginning. I believe he's seen enough of both of these guys up close to be convinced that they can manage to get as much production out of Richardson as they would have from Fournier. Richardson is the better defender as well.

I think the difference in shooting is pretty large between the two guys, and I expect it to make an impact on spacing / offensive production.

And 3 years vs. 1 year.  That seems to be the big difference.

On the court, I suspect Josh Richardson will be fine, comparable to Fournier.

Fournier is better, clearly.  We could have easily had both though.

Fournier chews up bad defenses but Richardson is more consistent vs good teams from my very half-assed game log perusing.  I'd there a way to look up their stats vs. good teams?

Fournier is a better, more versatile scorer. Richardson is a better defender and, maybe especially important to this team, he can give a team backbone. When we played the Sixers, he was a pest - gave that team more fight than it usually does when he was in. If we want edge and experience, he brings it.

Fournier is streaky, better but streaky shooter and mediocre defender

Richardson is a much better defender. And better shot creator

When France played the US team a week or so ago, it was Fournier that was the best player on the floor. Just because he left, doesn't mean we should start trashing him as being inferior.

How is he a better shot creator?

Josh Richardson averaged 4.9 points per game in the playoffs last year.

He's been to the playoffs four times in his career.  He has a .455 eFG%, 37.1% FG% and single digit scoring averages in three out of four seasons.

I was actually pretty surprised by that.
