A change was needed but Guardians seems pretty bland to me.

Yeah I don't get it at all.  Pick something from the area or history or something that is just different and cool.  Guardians doesn't fit either of those.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Guardians

Indians

A lot of the same letters and wonder if that is just a coincidence.  I get it, their logo of the smiling Indian was kind of offensive even to me (and I am not easily offended).  My high school was an Indian nickname, still is.  I also played on a team called the Chiefs.  Oh well.

I don’t understand why either Cleveland Indians or Washington Redskins didn’t just go with ‘The Natives’.

You would obviously alter the logo but you can keep the spirit of the team alive and could even bring in the local Indigenous Americans for educational programs, ceremonies and even start a Native American charity.

I don’t understand why either Cleveland Indians or Washington Redskins didn’t just go with either ‘Natives’ or the name of the largest local Native American tribe.

You would obviously alter the logo but you can keep the spirit of the alive and could even bring in the local Native Americans for educational programs, ceremonies and even start a Native American charity.

Some tribes, and individuals within tribes, still see such things as offensive.  It’s better to avoid it.

Perhaps you’re right, I could see the issue of calling the Washington team an indigenous name given those two aren’t really historically compatible.

Just some information about the name. There is some actual meaning to it:

The name Guardians is a reference to well-known art deco statues located on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge, which spans the Cuyahoga River and connects downtown Cleveland to the city’s trendy Ohio City neighborhood. Those statues are known as the “Guardians of Traffic.”

Still not great and the logo is super-cringe, but at least it's not like parental guardians or something lol

Is that Tom Hanks narrating?

Quick wikipedia search says he did 3 years of theater there, but doesn't seem like much else of a Cleveland connection, especially for all the "we" he throws out there.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

It is.

I'm all for the Black Keys, though. Pretty awesome live.

Here’s an interview he gave on Colbert a few years ago about his Cleveland fandom.

I was hoping they'd go with "Spiders" or "Paladins"
