Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich, the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year, revealed Thursday that he is battling cancer.
Herzlich, a senior, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, which is a tumor most often found in bone or soft tissue."
Got this part from Wiki about the disease.
"Staging attempts to distinguish patients with localized from those with metastatic disease.[17] Most commonly, metastases occur in the chest, bone and/or bone marrow. Less common sites include the central nervous system and lymph nodes.
Five-year survival for localized disease is 70% to 80% when treated with chemotherapy.[18] Long term survival for metastatic disease can be less than 10% but some sources state it is 25-30%."He was expected to be a first round pick in next years draft and was arguably the top linebacker in the country. He easily is my favorite BC football player, he's the prototypical LB, big, fast, and is a monster hitter. Obviously the football doesnt matter now, just an awful story. Best wishes to him and good luck, it sounds like they caught it early which is always good.
