I just figured out the Search function and found that there was a poll about trading Rozier for Portis:

Yeah, in 2016. A lot of things have changed since then, which include Rozier emerging in the playoffs and Portis fighting a teammate.

I'd absolutely trade Yabu and the Clippers pick for Portis.  Wouldn't give that one a second thought.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Why? The Clippers are trending downwards and Portis would barely play

Oh boy that did not age well.  ;D

A lot of people didn't want Rozier at 16. They killed Ainge for not picking Portis at 16 and taking a "reach" like Rozier, all the while ignoring our comments that Ainge could not take Rozier at 28 because at least 2 other teams reportedly wanted Rozier between our picks.

I have my criticisms of Terry, but he really ended up as a great draft pick.

The Clippers trending downward makes trading it more enticing, as it would cease to be a first if they miss the playoffs.

Jeez, Donogus with the party pooper thread lock. I found that interesting!

I'd be fine with getting a zero offense, all defensive, buyout vet. Like another Haynes, but even more agile

So kind of like Theis, except Theis can shoot?

I am bumping this thread.  With Baynes out a month, I'd like to see something happen.  If not a trade, then maybe pick up a big off the scrap heap for a couple of 10-day contracts.

You think that would actually affect our curve?
10-day guy, Big Baby or such?

I don't see any sense in bringing anyone in simply because we might be shorthanded for a month or so. Theis and Williams steps in and shows us why they are on this team. Theis will be super solid and Williams will have to learn by fire and his team mates are going to have help him adjust.

I don't want some stiff who knows nothing about our playbook or defensive system taking developmental time away from Williams as the Celtics make the best out of the injuries that have set in. Let the kid play and learn the hard way. I think he would just give Stevens another bullet in his holster to use at some point for a Celtic playoff win or two.

I agree. When you have as much talent as the Cs, injuries can be a blessing in disguise. Look at last year. With Hayward's injury, and then Irving's in the playoffs, Tatum, Brown, and Rozier all got reps that made them better players.

The Cs are playing for May and June, not for December and January.

These reps might prepare Williams to be the player we need him to be in the playoffs.

What about Tristan Thompson? Never liked the guy but man can he rebound and he can switch out on defense. I think he would fill the hole for Baynes and he has championship experience. Is he too expensive?

Thompson makes over $17 million a year. Trading for him has to start with giving up Smart because you will need his salary to match salaries.

That should end that idea. Unless of course you would prefer to give up Tatum/Brown or Tatum /Morris or Brown/Morris as a substitute for not including Smart? Either way, Ainge isn't thinking about adding a big on a big contract.
