Title: Rondo says the Lakers are the best organization he’s played for
Post by: Roy H. on October 15, 2018, 05:11:45 PM
Quote
Rondo cited Boston as a highlight in his career, but about the overall Lakers organization so far: “Can’t say it’s not the best I’ve ever played for.”

... and just like that, he was dead to me.

I say we invite him to the Garden, telling him we’re retiring his jersey. Then we retire Ray’s instead.

That quote doesn't match the headline.  It doesn't definitely say they are the best org he's played for.  You ought to provide a link to the story.

Darn it Rondo. Why?!

Seeing him in purple and gold was bad enough

Hmmm...Rondo "torture proposition" based on Rondo Laker love is thoroughly reasonable.

Dang, Rondo. After all the years I defended you on this site until the very end, along with BBallTim, and you go and say this?!?!?!

You are now dead to me Rajon Rondo!

[Trudell] Rondo said he told LeBron on the plane the other day that he’s “never seen” 12 guys on one team all watching film. Added that LeBron had the attention of the entire group a few days ago during a film session. Said it’s an encouraging sign.

I always dreamt of him returning as a bench PG, donning #9 again and winning a ring with us.

Now I hope he gets swept in the first round!

Rondo ingratiating himself to LeBron is definitely one way he that he isn't looking for a new team next season.

That's because Rondo was one of the guys not watching the game film and instead throwing the water bottle at the screen during his time in Boston

LOL what do we all expect?

Anyone here that is shocked must NOT know what's at stake, here - or do not want to admit the possibilities..

For Rajon Rondo (and of course LeBron James) to have a successful time in LakerLand this means - ultimately - The Lakers' 17th Championship.

If they have a successful season (50+ wins, IMO) and a 2nd round playoff exit (quite possible that they make the 2nd round, if healthy) then Rajon Rondo WILL come back for a 2nd year or more..

Make NO mistake, here - if Rajon Rondo is a key part of helping the Los Angeles Lakers achieve their 17th Championship (with LeBron James playing at an MVP-like level), then don't we ALL know that he is simply punching his ticket into the HOF?

He would be doing ALL OF THIS at the expense of the team that gave him his opportunity to shine, and his current team's HATED rivals The Boston Celtics.

Rajon Rondo knows what's at stake - don't let him fool ANYONE, here.

Dude is dialed in COMPLETELY and ready to stick it to The Green.

Isaiah Thomas was BARELY ready - as a Pre-Injury Rajon Rondo was controlling that CHI series a couple of years ago.

Lord I hope Kyrie and Scary Terry are ready. They'd better bring their A-Games.

Meh.  He hasn't really even played for them yet, unless you consider preseason as "playing" for a team.  Preseason, the completely insignificant and inconsequential leadup to the regular season.

We'll see how he feels at the end of the season, after he's endured months of knuckleheads crammed into one locker room while LeBron's ego overshadows the entire team, and after he's gotten knocked out of the playoffs by the Warriors.

I'm certainly not writing off the possibility of Golden State or Houston messing things up, although I would definitely be surprised. However, I don't have LAL as the 3rd best team in the West regardless. They are riddled with flaws, and lack meaningful depth. Additionally, their coaching is unproven, and they heavily rely on thus far unproven youngsters.

I would still back the two top Western teams of last season to beat them, alongside OKC and SAS, and then there are a few maybe teams. New Orleans if Randle slots in next to Davis as well as I think he might. Denver if IT returns to a 20ppg scorer and/or Murray takes another step. Minnesota if they figure out a way to make all that talent work.

All I'm saying is that I'm not particularly afraid of the Lakers. I don't rate their young talent, and their lone superstar only has so much gas left in the tank

So, I found the whole quote over at Silver Screen and Roll, and it seems this is most likely a direct shot at Doc/Danny, and not the organization as a whole.

“This is definitely a players-first organization,” Rondo said after practice on Monday. “I can’t say it’s not the best I’ve ever played for as far as the staff.”

I can't say I'm terribly surprised by that, given Rondo's tenuous relationship over the years with Doc/Danny.

Anyways, here's a link with a bit more context to the quotes:

TP - this is my sentiment, too. Everybody is always amped up at the start of the year, and playing with Lebron has to be exciting, but something has to give on that LAL team.

Also, the quote is pretty iffy in its assuredness. If he had said, "The Lakers are by far the best franchise I have ever played for," I would be a lot more upset. Heck, he is still in good with KG and Pierce. This to me just sounds like classic 'get under your skin' Rondo. He is a character and that is one of the things I have always loved about him.

That quote doesn't match the headline.  It doesn't definitely say they are the best org he's played for.  You ought to provide a link to the story.

It’s a tweet. That’s the whole story.
But “can’t say it’s not” is not the same as “Rondo says the Lakers are the best organization he’s played for.”  I can’t say Jim Beam Black isn’t the greatest whiskey ever... I haven’t tried it yet though.

I’m not bothered by Rondo’s comments at all.  I’m not that sensitive.  He’s a Laker now and he’s supposed to be loyal to that team.  He may be singing a different tune when he’s not playing for the Lakers any more.

He also can't say it is the best.  Really a non-issue.  Nice way of saying he really likes his current wife, without really trashing his ex wives.

"I need another ring," Rondo said after practice on Monday. "It's simple. I want to be the first to win for the two most historic franchises that's ever put a basketball to use. So, I got one in Boston and I'd love to get one with this organization."

I can't ever say he's dead to me because of all the Good Times in Green...dude was essentially Mini-KG.

But don't think for one minute if we meet in June somehow in the near future that we won't get Rondo's very best.

If Kyrie isn't ready he's going to get Rondo'd.

TP.  Significantly different quote than originally posted.  I doubt that it is directed at Doc.  Rondo and Doc may have butted heads sometimes but Rondo clearly gets along with and respects Doc.  Doc is most certainly a player's coach and he let Rondo run the show most of the time.  Danny and the organization as a whole are a different story,  Great GM and great org but I wouldn't call either players-first.

Still got my Rajon Rondo shirt, but the tag is still attached. Should I just burn it?

Rondo cited Boston as a highlight in his career, but about the overall Lakers organization so far: “Can’t say it’s not the best I’ve ever played for.”

... and just like that, he was dead to me.

I say we invite him to the Garden, telling him we’re retiring his jersey. Then we retire Ray’s instead.

"and just like that, he walked out of our lives"

And after he gets used to playing in front of a late-arriving, pose & posture, leave early fan base compared to what the Celtics play in front of every nite they are home at the Garden. On second thought, those fans might suit Rondo just fine.

See...this dude is determined to beat BOS..

Good Lord - Give me LA in the Finals any time. We owe them for 2010 and to hell with Rondo. Send the attack dogs after him - Smart & Rozier with Morris waiting at the basket.

He was dead to me the moment he agreed to terms with the Lakers.

Do not care what comes out of his mouth.

Idk man, LeBron James seems to have our numbers every time we face him. I would hate to lose to him and the Lakers in an NBA Finals. Hope we don't get swept by him in the regular season, I'd hate that.

Everyone needs to read the whole story.  The quotes are not bad. When read in full.

Quote
You expect certain teams, certain franchises [to be like this]," continued Rondo, who is playing for his sixth team in his 13th season. "Obviously, playing for Boston that was probably the best experience I've had since I've [been in the league]. And now here. Obviously, all the teams I've played for, they do have great organizations, but none touch this."

Quote
"I love our young guys, our commitment, the way they study the game, their willingness to learn. I was telling Bron the other day, we were on the plane and I've never seen [dang] near 12 guys watching film. As a team, I haven't seen that many guys combined in the last four [or] five seasons, I think. So, it was very refreshing to see. Understanding that this team is committed."

So Boston was his best experience.  And he hasn’t seen this many watching film since he was in Boston.

Sacramento, Dallas Chicago and New Orleans can feel
Burned.   But not us.

Non-story.

i don't understand their team make up at all.   Bron HAS to have the ball 95%of the time to play BRON ball .  He starts and initiates everything .....he has been doing this for many many years , its his plan and formula for success. Why is he going to change ?    Lonzo and Rondo are the same players ,  can't shoot ,  and must have the ball ALOT to be effective as they can be.   Bron needs to be on the floor most of the game .   What style ball , who's the leader ,  who is coach ,  who calls the plays?    Too many quarterbacks n the field .   Too many chiefs .

Bron is going to let Ball and Rondo dominate the ball ?   We saw what he did to IT when he had to share with another ball dominating guard.

I just don't see how all this works out during a game ....I remember the bad days of Wade and Bron , could not decide who was going to take the last shot and deferring to each other while th e game slid away .  This makeup might work against bad defenses .   But against good teams.   some of those egos are going to have to play defense.

They have at least ONE too many ego ball dominating players .

If i was Lonzo, i would ask to be traded.

I agree.  If I was Lonzo I’d start looking at real estate in New Orleans.

I hate the Lakers as much as anyone, but he plays for them now.  If he wasn't saying nice things about the organization and his teammates we'd be trashing him for being a selfish prick.

Fans really overplay this ball dominance issue.  Last year, it was Rondo going to NOP was bad because it would take the ball out of Holiday's hands. Turned out it worked great.  Holiday was able to focus more on defense and he still got his touches.  They made it to the 2nd round after outplaying Lillard and McCollom in the 1st.

IT and Wade are heavy score first players.  Rondo and Ball are heavy pass first players.  That's a huge difference.  Ball isn't really ball dominant.  He played the 2 a lot in college.  Rondo is less ball dominant than people portray him to be especially in a fast pace system.  Rondo and Ball should reduce the load on Lebron.  Imagine a Lebron with more energy to play defense and in crunch time.

I don't see Lebron, Rondo and Ball being much of an issue.  I'd expect most of the time it will just be two of them together.  Limited shooting, poor defense, lack of bigs will be their top issues.

Lonzo isn't going to ask to be traded from the Lakers.  Rondo is on a one year contract.

Sometimes a rapper will take out another rapper's ex-girlfriend or baby's mother and make a big show of 'treating her right'.

And it always seemed dumb to me. There's a reason that the woman isn't the current girlfriend or partner, and if you feel like you're better off without them, why get upset when they get some good fortune or improve their quality of life.

So why you mad? Cuz Rondo is trying to make the best of his new situation? I bet he's pretty tired of having to prove himself every single season again and again because nobody believes he's top-tier talent. I bet he'd really like to spend a few years in one place on a lucrative deal that matches up with his own expectations. And none of those things will happen with the Celtics.

We gonna get mad when Isaiah Thomas says, "Joker is the best big man I've ever played with, and this crowd is the best home crowd I've ever seen. They're just different here!"

Do you also get mad after you go to a concert and see the same guy on youtube saying, "I've been lots of places but Austin Texas is the best crowd I've ever seen!" even though when you went to the concert he said YOUR town was the best crowd he'd ever seen?

Seems dumb.

Rondo is just kissing (his boss) Magic Johnson's a$$.

BTW, how can so many people go from thinking the Celtics have a chance to win the title, to being worried about playing the Lakers in the Finals? I think I have a better chance of winning the Powerball then seeing the Lakers in this year's Finals.

"I need another ring," Rondo said after practice on Monday. "It's simple. I want to be the first to win for the two most historic franchises that's ever put a basketball to use. So, I got one in Boston and I'd love to get one with this organization."

Well, I dug something out and Rondo is wrong.

Clyde Lovellette already won the championship with both teams:
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lovelcl01.html

Just as Rondo, he was a 4 time NBA all-star.

For some extra trivia;
As Sam Cassell, he won the whole thing in both his 1st and last NBA season.

So Rondo either:
1) doesn't know of him and is wrong that no one did it before him.
2) doesn't count Minny titles as Laker titles, which would produce some entertainment value of its own.

However it is, he wouldn't be the first to do it. This statements just show that he doesn't know the history of his current NBA team, but also the history of our Celtics, his by far best NBA stop.

He is not going to be first, and I think he won't win a ring there, either.  The wheels could fall off for old man Lebron any day now.  He is still a great player, but I don't see them winning it this year.   That will be another year, older.   He already missed more dunks than I have ever seen him last year, it's coming, but he is still the alpha dog, but soon Durant will carry the mantle for a few years, then I hope Tatum.

While I agree the Lakers aren't winning a title this year, I see no evidence whatsoever that LeBron is starting to tail off.  He had a great season last year and can still impose his will whenever he wants.  The only "chink in the armor" are his minutes especially come playoff time.  He simply cannot keep up this pace of 100 games a year for double-digit years and carrying the scoring load at that.  So yeah, "it's coming" but I still give him another 2-3 years of dominance.
