I had a look at the Hornets' Reddit, there's a lot of negativity around the Hayward signing, mainly about the cost. Here's an example of a meme that's getting upvoted:

Poor Gordon. I've got a lot of time for G, I think he's a nice guy, by all accounts a great teammate, he never once complained about his role while here, he accepted being 4th string even though he came here as an All Star, he missed the birth of his son to play for us while still injured, but end of day he left as a bust because he never lived up to the $128m he was paid. I fear history might be about to repeat itself, especially since he's got $130m more reasons to have to live up to his billing.

You mean Rich Gordon. He just make cool 250,000 ....

Is it right that the Batum deal has been announced but has not officially taken place so he might still be able to be involved in a s&t?

I don't want him but he only has 1 year left on that deal, right? There's probably a non-contending team that doesn't mind taking him on for a year if they can get a second rounder out of it.

its just an extra headache. Goodluck trying to find suitors for Batum without taking back salary

I agree with the other posters. Only for TPE. Otherwise let Charlotte sweat it themselves

Maybe my post wasn't clear. I'm asking if Batum can be routed to a third team so the C's can get something out of it, be it a player or a trade exception.

I think Hornets fans are pretty happy paying Hayward now that they've started their season 2 and 4...

He's putting up marginally better numbers than last season in an expanded role so i guess he got everything he wanted.

Happy for him.

Of course it's a huge contract, but he's the kind of veteran leader you want around your young, up and coming players. The more perplexing thing is $9M+ on their books for the next 3 years for a player who isn't even playing for them. It's not likely CHA was going to land any big FAs in the coming years, but that can certainly limit a team's options.

As for Hayward himself, I am sure the last 3 seasons were a whirlwind for him and he is probably just enjoying playing low-pressure, injury-free basketball as the 'best' player on his team. You don't go to CHA to compete for a Title. Some guys just chill out in their 30s in terms of their competitive nature; I know I did.

Is Terry Rozier making the max? ;)

Agree good point.

$100 million offer for 4 years of pressure for a championship

$120 million offer for 4 years of no pressure.

It was kind of a no brainer for the guy after the past few years of stress. And if he gets tired of not competing, in 2-3 years he can ask for a trade

I thought Hayward said a big reason he left was he thinks he's in the prime of his career and wanted a bigger role. He hasn't been able to show that so far yet in Charlotte. He's averaging pretty much what he did here as the 4th option.

I’d take Hayward over Rozier every day. Rozier is a poor man’s Sexton.

Not sure what people are confused about regarding Hayward’s role. He’s shooting the ball more, handling it more and being played as the 1b scoring option... just because he’s less efficient in a bad Charlotte offence doesn’t mean his role is the same

yeah, he seems to be in a groove now. His role is just different in Charlotte where is the 1 or 1A on offense whereas here he was our 4th option. people forget he had a really good season last year until he was injured in the playoffs.

I've gotta give it to him.  Even though the Hornets have a losing record, he's definitely getting his.

There's no shame in realizing you're a good stats on a bad team guy.

I wish him the best.
