I love the way he's attacking. He's taking 3 more shots per game this season than last but his 3PA's are the same. He's getting all the way to the rim and finishing, attempting twice as many FT's. He's also at .572 eFG% despite hitting just 30% of his 3's.

Tatum is the more skilled offensive player but Jaylen is playing smarter right now on top of being the better athlete. If Jaylen can keep up the attack mentality, his strength and quickness could make him the more reliable scorer in the end.

His dribbling and shooting have improved tremendously since he entered the league and he is still an elite athlete. All Star this year.

He's 23 to boot.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Tatum is clearly a better 3 pt shooter, and that is a big deal. I'm not sure he's better at any other offensive skill.

Probably free throws, and that is it.

He looks confident as heck out there these days.

It's like you're seeing the game finally slow down & come to him now.  Something that seems to still be lacking with Tatum at times so far this season.

And for that to matter he has to actually start taking more. His FT  rate is only .183, down from .22 last year and .31 his rookie year. Thats big when it come to generating efficient offense. By comparison Hayward is .375 for his career, George is .31 for his career, Kawhi is .32, Durant is .41.

This is a Jaylen Brown thread, not a Tatum thread.

I will add that Tatum is very much following a Paul George trajectory on offense. George's FTR through his first three seasons was .252. He struggled to generate good looks going to the rim and settled for a lot of outside shots.

As the game slows down, Tatum will get better at that. The game has slowed down a bit for Brown and his rate is up to .37 this year.

538 just updated their new advanced player metric for the season so far and Jaylen scores out very nicely, coming in with a raptor score of +7.4, good for 16th in the league. Pretty equally divide between offensive score (4.1) and defensive (3.3). Funny enough Smart is 14th at 7.7 and Kemba is 18th at 7.2.

Jaylen is a really good two way player so it isn't a surprise. RAPTOR isn't super reliable yet, but it does capture the value of defense quite well imo (Smart's a top non-big defender and is getting rewarded for it with a whopping 5.8 defensive RAPTOR, and AD's having superstar impact on the back of his crazy 8+ defensive RAPTOR despite of his offensive slump so far).

Ya I don't put too much stock in any advanced metric unless it also matches what I've seen on the court, and in Jaylen's case I think it shows pretty well that while he hasn't been elite either offensively or defensively he has been VERY good at both and that combo can get you pretty far.

And its especially because the only guy above him who is younger than him is Luka (Mitchell is a month older). I suspect he won't have a TS% of 61% all year, but it will be interesting to see if he can keep his play up.

Bunch of Brown non-believers said that as a way to take a swipe at him. I never got the comparison in any way.
