I am interested if there'd be a way to sync up the league with my phone for notifications and reminders, e.g., a trade's been proposed or needs votes, I'm about to be on the clock in the draft, one of my players is injured, lineups need to be finalized tomorrow, etc.

a. each team's pick is due at a specific time. the teams before you can go early when they're up, but you always have until your time. For example:

picks will be listed like this (with the time being when your pick is due).

3. BOS - 11:30
4. PHI - 11:40
5. CHI - 11:50

Let's say we open the draft at 11, and the teams at 1 and 2 only take 5 mins each. So at 11:10 BOS is "on the clock". They now have 20 mins... if they only take 1 min, PHI is up at 11:11 but still has until 11:40. So you will never have LESS time than scheduled but you could have much more (this is to accomodate folks who can't be on the board constantly or have to pop in and out) and works very well.

It *is* everyone's responsiblity to read the board (in the first post of the draft thread) to see when their next pick is... you won't get reminders.

b. in your PROFILE / PRIVATE MESSAGING you can turn on a setting where you get a pop-up when you come to the forums if you have a PM (which is how other GMs will discuss trades with you).

c. There used to be there a setting that you could also get an email when you got a PM, but it doesn't work for me any more...

Hope those things help... it's all pretty simple... and if you just read through the old threads you should see how it works.

I think another important thing to note is that it is sometimes difficult for people to get online at or around the time the pick is due because of work, school, etc..

We should include the option that people can send lists of picks in order of priority either to Commish/assistants or those who do not have a pick in front of them. Just something to note that might encourage people to play if scheduling could sometimes be an issue.

Right! This is standard operating procedure for drafts here -- so much so I forgot to mention it!

I am mostly online, like ALL THE TIME.

Unless I get a customer rush, there's a 90% chance I can pick for any GM who wants to leave a list.

That will be my Little Santa's Helper contribution to the game if you guys allow me to.

I'd rather not go with fewer than 28 teams -- fewer makes the pool too shallow AND we know that there may be a GM or 2 flake once we start.

Let's see if we can get a few more this weekend.

Commish permitting.

I remember that we can. I saw a team named CrotoNat once, I think.

That was some team, alright.

Can we name our own teams?

No.

In my experience it's difficult enough to keep track of which players are on what team (and who their GMs are) without throwing in new team names.

That's a bummer. But not exactly a "sticking point".

It does seem this was allowed once upon a time, no?

This is what I'm thinking for schedule

July 26 - Lottery***
July 27/28 - Pre-draft draft of Draft Slot and Teams***
Aug 1-5 - Draft, rounds 1-5
Aug 6-7 - Coaches round
Aug 8-12 - Draft, rounds 6-14
Aug 15-17 - Press Conferences
Aug 18-19 - Voting
Aug 22-21 - Playoffs & voting
Aug 22-25 - Finals

------------------------------------------

*** Here's how this would work -- it's part new wrinkle, part getting new folks acclimated to the draft process:

Tues 7/26 I run a lottery for the next day.

Wed 7/27 Based on the lottery results we pick draft slots -- i.e. where you'll be picking.

So the first GM chooses what pick they want -- keeping in mind that CBD uses a modified snake where pick #1 doesn't pick again until pick Pick #60, then pick #90. (see example below using real NBA standings...)

The winner of the lottery could decide they want the #1 pick, or the #8 pick or the #30 pick (or any in between).

Thu 7/28 In reverse order we then pick teams -- so theorhetically the team that loses the lottery at least gets first crack at picking the Celtics  ;D

These 2 rounds will work just like the normal draft so new GMs can see how the draft works practically.

------------------------------------------

CBD's modified snake... i've highighted 3 teams so you can see where they pick in each of the 1st 5 rounds:

PHI gets picks 1, 60, 90, 91, 150...
DAL gets picks 16, 45, 75, 106, 135...
GSW gets picks 30, 31, 61, 120, 121...

Rounds 6/7 are the same as 4/5, and so on.

This is to attempt to mitigate the significant advantage of getting a really high pick.

Sounds good. I'm in.
