December 15th 2022 is when PBS can officially move Danilo Gallinari.

Some may see this as a heartless endeavour, but the reality is that Gallo is out for the season, hurt himself outside the scope of the Celtics and has a player option for his second season.

The question is what type of return could the Celtics get for an expiring deal? I am assuming Stevens would have to attach a pick to Gallo’s 6.45 million dollar contract.

Who would you like the Celtics to target?

Indeed.  And coming off an ACL, Gallo is likely to pick it up, so it will not be viewed as an expiring by potential trade partners.

I understand.

My thought process was if the Celtics send Gallinari to a team like Oklahoma or San Antonio, he would not pick up that player option, or if he did…he would simply be bought out.

Gallinari is simply the salary filler, it’s the pick the other team wants.

I'm struggling to understand what type of quality people expect to get from trading a guy who can't play all year and will pick up his $7 million option, but could never be the same player ever again given the injury and his age.

You could probably do better with an exception.

Pretty much.

Gallo is trade filler at this point, at best. I doubt we are going to give up a pick in addition to Gallo unless we are getting a really decent rookie contract player back (because of the low salary).

Better to just DPE him. I know that doesn’t open up the roster spot but a pick and a TPE will get more than if you ask the other team to take back Gallo.

Any trade that's just Gallo, regardless of whether you get a player or an exception, will require a pick heading out.

Now, if it's Gallo and a player for a player with a higher combined salary, no picks may be required to be sent out, depending on just how good the other players in the trade besides Gallo are.

I actually thought about someone like Zach Collins for Gallinari and a protected future first.

He’s a versatile big, who has good vision and can spread the floor.

Collins has had health issues, but with a rotation of Horford, Williams III and Williams, the Celtics can manage his load correctly.

Trade Gallo and add the bad karma to what's still left from IT. Gallo chose us because he wanted to be a Celtic. I kinda think that Brad wants to establish a reputation different than the one Danny Ainge made for himself.

Dumping Gallo might be bad karma

Celtics don’t need more of that

Then should they keep a player who can't even help contribute in any way and eat up the team's money?

I don't believe Gallo should be dumped at the expense of a draft pick, but I'd have no problem trading him as part of a larger trade because I think Boston would have done that whether he was hurt or not.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
