We are generally a smart group of fans on here who are very good at gauging success of NBA prospects. However, as even the best of GMs have, we have all at some point made major errors and pined for prospects that ended up being busts.
I thought it would be interesting to list some of the past prospects that you wished the Celtics would have gotten, who ended up being busts. I will start with:
Robert Swift: whether I bought into the hype or let the online information convince me, or if I was fooled all by myself, it was probably a mixture of all of those, but I badly wanted this guy and thought he was going to be a tough, talented center for years to come
Perry Jones III: I was so upset when we drafted Fab Melo over him, but in retrospect it didn't really matter
Royce White: I would have considered him over Sullinger. Regardless of his mental health issue, when he did play in the NBDL and the NBA, he looked absolutely terrible.
Austin Rivers: I thought this guy was going to be an explosive scorer that could have helped us fill a big need. So far he is lucky to still be in the league.
Semih Erden (after we traded him, I hoped we would get him back): I thought he could have been our starting center down the line. Boy was I wrong.
