Quote
While numerous NBA players are considering heading overseas to play basketball in the event of a prolonged lockout, Thunder point guard Nate Robinson told SLAM that he may try out for an NFL team. Robinson played cornerback at the University of Washington.

“I might go play football,” Robinson told SLAM. “Do something that nobody’s tried to do.

“If I can, I would love to play football a little bit. I’ve been doing a little bit of training.”

Robinson, who has a year left on his contract with the Thunder, added, “Why wouldn’t you want to have an NBA player that can play football try out? That’s a lot of publicity for your organization.”

Tell that to Danny Woodhead.....

Nate is very fast and quick, he played CB in the pac 10 for 3 or 4 years and was expected to be drafted if he entered the NFL draft

I think he could be a nickle CB

I think he would be a pesky defender, but in the NFL the men are much larger than what you get in college. I'm just not sure how good or effective he would be for his size.

If he could somehow make a roster, he'd probably become one of my favorite athletes.

If he were to play CB, he'd be right around the average CB height for an NFL player, which is right around 5 foot 10.  He is also built like a football player, a solid mass of muscle.  Nate is a world class athlete.  He'd just have to relearn coverage techniques and such, and he could easily play in the NFL.  I doubt he'd be on the level of Asomugha, but to think a world class athlete like Nate couldn't play in the NFL is absurd to me.  His leaping ability, and speed allow him to be an extremely tight cover.

I would love to see him be able to, but I can't imagine it happening on D.  He is listed at 5'9'' but there is no way he is over 5' 8''.  I can't imagine him being able to hang when he will be usually giving up 4" to guys that are just as athletic as he is.

I want Nate back in Boston. I don't care if it's Gillette, or TD. He's one of my all time favorites and I bet he could do it. He's gonna lead them to banner #4 :)

Nate is a really nice guy. He'd probably play well, I bet he can intercept some passes.

now, if they somehow invent a football that smells like pancakes, I can picture BBD being the pass rusher that all the Patriot Nation is longing for.

Shrek and Donkey in the NFL? oh yes!

I would love to see him in the NFL.

Nate is a world class athlete and his size would be a non-issue in the NFL.

It all depends on how well he can adjust to the NFL game and if he still has the instincts for it.

Physically I think he should be able to compete.

I know a lot of people think Nate is too small but as it has been said before his 5'-9" frame is right on par with most NFL defensive backs. Just look at the Patriots defensive backs from last season:

  • Kyle Arrington- 5-10
  • Darius Butler- 5-10
  • Patrick Chugn- 5-11
  • Devin McCourty- 5-10
  • Brandon Meriweather- 5-11
  • James Sanders- 5-10
  • Johnathan Wilhite- 5-11

Plus, I bet Nate's got a better vertical than over 90% of corners.

I disagree.  Just looked up my favorite team as an example, and found that the Eagles' starting cornerbacks were 5'9", 5'10" and 5'10".  So while Nate may be an inch or two shorter than those guys, there's no way in hell they have anything close to his vertical leap.  Not only that, he's pretty jacked for his height.  I'd say he has all the physical tools he needs to try out for an NFL team.
