I prefer Vonleh and JJackson....young vets still with upside.

Whats up with Matt Ryan?

I know we all see the slots differently but are these the "useable" players?

PG:   Smart      White         Pritchard
SG:   Brown     Brogdon
SF:   Tatum
PF:   Horford    Gallinari       GWill
C:     RWill

Then we have Kornet, Hauser, and 3 open spots.  I guess Vonleh is kind of signed also.

Vonleh might be fine as the insurance big.  Or at least he can hold down the spot to see if a better option comes along.  Everyone assumes that we could just sign Whiteside or Howard if we wanted to but does anyone know that?  Maybe they are both waiting to see if LAL or MIA call?  I expect that every effort will be made to add a vet back up big.  Then one of Vonleh or Kornet will just be cut (min guaranteed money on their contracts).

I think we also need a vet forward-wing (SF).  That seems to be a place we are thin.  Hauser can be 3rd string.  I like Brodric Thomas also.  He could be a placeholder/3rd string option for SG.  It is interesting that we don't have any "pure" point guards.  We have 3 combo guards (actual 4 if you include Brogdon but he will probably play as a 2/3).  Gotta love the combo guards.

I don't think it was necessary to use the TPE just to use it, especially after we got Brogdon and Gallinari.  We just have a couple of reserve slots to fill and this roster will be fine, maybe the best and deepest in the league.  We still have a $7.9M and a $5.9M TPE to use.  Who is going to spend more than that on the 11th man?  The Fourier TPE was for a core rotation player but we got Brogdon and Gallinari without using it.  Oh well, no harm, no foul.  That is how I see it.

I like to take this into the three categories used by many now, Ballhandler, Wing, Big:

Ballhandler:  Smart, White, Pritchard
Wing:  Brown, Tatum, Brogdon, Hauser
Big:  RWill, GWill, Gallinari, Al, Noah, Bruno

With JD and Mfiondu on 2-Way deals.

I think Kornet will be the odd man out on a 15 man roster, including the two 2-ways.  I would bet that Bruno and Noah make the team with Hauser.

I'm a little worried about the backup big depth.  Horford and Williams WILL miss time.   Horford will sit out back to backs and play about 28-30mpg to keep him fresh for the playoffs.  Rob will miss 10-15 games to little nagging injuries.  He has not proven he can stay healthy for a full season yet.

The C's have unproven depth behind them.  This worries me.  I am intrigued by Vonleh.  I think he will get the minutes eventually over Kornet.  Either way the C's need another backup big.  Not having draft picks for the last few years hurts there because that's where you draft these types of players.

Bruno and Vonleh are better than Martin and Fitts. So at least we are getting better unplayable players?

In general, I would have liked for the Fournier TPE to have been used. But also get that is a big salary slot for a 10th or 11th man and the whole too many mouths to feed argument. We've had a really good offseason and added two quality players (potential starters on many teams) as depth pieces. A third would have been a grand slam but think it's hyperbole to suggest that is what is going to keep us from a championship. Sure, every little bit helps but we all know it's the top guys that make or break a championship, right?

I think we have a sensitive team. Brad is being careful not to upset the apple cart and is going to avoid guys that may disrupt chemistry by being knuckle heads, or that don't fit our identity. I don't think we will see a Howard, Whiteside or Harrell signing. I actually think whomever survives Bruno/Vonleh/Kabengle camp battle for a roster spot and some minutes could result in an athletic energy big with some skills that could be useful in situations. Somewhat playable instead of unplayable. I have no interest in Thomas or Jackson, tho still marginally better than Martin or Fitts maybe. Matt Ryan would be worthless with his defense and lack of athleticism, we got Hauser and Pritchard for 3pt specialists.

All that being said, I would hope that a Jeff Green or Jeremy Lamb signing, a TPE move at the deadline and/or a ring chasing buy out to fill 1 or 2 roster spots are still on the table. We should still be striving to have our cake and eat it too!

While I'm fine with roster spots 13-15 being used on "developmental" or unproven players, I do think it's a mistake if the Celtics don't bring in a 5 who has been there done that in terms of being a rotation player in the league.

Now we need some former first rounders from 2013-2016 to find a wing.  Who do we like?

Knowing nothing about him, I’ve sold myself on Rashad Vaughn.  6’5”, #17 overall in 2015, turns 26 in two weeks.  Shot 42% from 3 on over 5 attempts a game in Greece this spring.

Anyone else?

My, all this hand wringing.  Pretty sure we still have one or two TPE's that we can use down the line.

I'm hoping for better this season.
It took all of 0 games last year for one of Al or RWIII to miss a game.
An opening night 2OT loss that RWIII payed 40+
Game 4, Al's out on a second night of a back to back. Another OT game where RWIII plays 36 mins. We won this one.
Not surprisingly Rob needed a rest day for game 6. Another 2OT loss and AL plays 40+

Overall Al or Rob missed 9 of the first 20 games. We went 3-6 in those games.

Ime tried GWill/Parker and Freedom, with not much success.

Now I agree there is no reason to panic.

The vet-min guys are sorting out their options. Maybe we are only offering partial guarantees, maybe they wait until camp and see if someone gets hurt and they can get more than the min.

We invite a bunch of guys hoping someone breaks out. I see more stretch 4's than "whatever we call the 5 now"

Maybe someone shakes out from another roster; cut, available for a 2nd in a trade, or use one of our TPE's
I wouldn't use a TPE on this unless it offered upside beyond this season.

I'll wait until after camp/pre-season but not till the trading deadline. This team can win 55-60 games, rest Tatum down the stretch and have home-court throughout.

And sure a wing is the next biggest on the risk spectrum, so if we can build depth there too, not at the expense of a 5, then heck yea.

Competition is a good thing as long as guys don't get hurt by guys trying to earn a spot.    I like it.

The problem isn't that there is a competition, it is that they competitors all stink.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

How about cult favorite Harry Giles? Or is he more of a big than a wing?

We’ve got two, each worth about the MLE. So if we’ve identified a need and a player to fill it, we could make a move at the deadline.

And by MLE I mean our taxpayer MLE, not the full.

I don't think we are bringing in Ryan. I also like Jackson and Vonleh as deep bench guys. I also like Bruno Caboclo from what little I've seen. He has crazy long arms.
