I wonder how much this affects his free agency

Assuming there's significant evidence, hopefully a lot.  Probably a little.

Unless there is a Ray Rice type video, probably very little.  20.2/7.0/3.8 trumps a little domestic violence.

He's a restricted free agent so he was going to stay with Charlotte regardless.  Maybe they get some extra protection in the contract beyond what's in the CBA.

Not at all unless he faces significant jail time, which is incredibly unlikely.

He’s got his qualifying offer, which I doubt will be rescinded.  But his next hearing isn’t until July 20th, and barring charges being dropped before then, I can’t imagine he signs a new contract in the next three weeks.

Of course he will.  He will be signed to a big contract before then.

My cynical nature agrees.

How much do we want to bet that behind the scenes, Bridges's intermediaries are informing the alleged victim about how dropping the charges would be in her financial best interests.  That in and of itself is usually a felony, but it no doubt happens.

Strangulation, concussion etc.

Terrible.  I don’t think he’s getting a deal.

I expect a small dent in his pay day as he will renounce drugs and find god  ::)

End up with a slap on the wrist and still land a $20+ million contract still.

Did you read the statement his wife put out?  Not a chance.

Yeah, the best he's going to do is the qualifying offer, right?  He should probably sign that ASAP.

In an ideal world, he'd be the next Jabari Bird.

Sure I did but all is forgiven when you have talent in pro sports. They put out some joint statement about councilling and God then it's pay day. Seen this story before.

I think we would all hope that a wife beater not be rewarded financially, but unfortunately a lot of these team decisionmakers are pragmatic to the point of being amoral. We've seen it happen a lot in sports, look how many chances Antonio Brown got. Ray Rice, Floyd Mayweather, Jose Canseco, Manny Ramirez, Sheed...the Browns gave Deshaun Watson a $230m contract even though 20 women accused him of sexual assault. It really depends on whether they feel the baggage he would bring with giving a wife beater a $80m contract with this over his head would outweigh his value on the court. They may decide to sit it out while he pleas no-contest and wait till the heat has died down before "rehabilitating" him.

I expect his agent to start the pressure game on his wife to either scare her into withdrawing the charges, or failing that, trying to pay her off. It's not right, but these athletes are given much longer rope than the rest of us. That's why a lot of them never learn about accountability and make the same mistakes over and over again.

Here's a list of athletes that have been charged with domestic violence.
