As for Al Horford, Udoka said he remains in the NBA’s health and safety protocols, and that while there’s a chance he could exit them in time to play, he remains doubtful for Game 2. Marcus Smart remains on track to return tonight in Game 2.

For those looking for an update, see above. It does seems strange that Horford hasn't been officially ruled out. If he tested negative yesterday and needed another negative test today, you'd think it'd be more clear.

Looking further into it, apparently there are three ways in which a player can clear protocols: 5 days without symptoms, 2 negative tests in 24 hours, or (and I guess this is the part we are dealing with) something about the CT values being low enough. Perhaps this is what is being tracked and what is leaving open the possibility of him playing. Unfortunately the 'doubtful' label doesn't give me much hope.

At least Smart is back.

Gawd that is a kick to the nuts that White is not going to play.

The Celtics have continued testing Al Horford with the hope that he can exit health and safety protocols prior to Game 2, sources said.

Ha, maybe they're trying to use a legal loophole to beat the system.

Like if 1 out of every 100 tests is a false negative, just test Al 200 times, and you'll likely get your 2 negative tests and he can play.

See we have 2 negative tests from Al he can play (and just don't mention the 198 positive ones)!

Maybe Al is just laying in bed right now as a nurse continually nasal swabs him trying to find that elusive negative test (I actually hate the nasal swabs so that doesn't sound fun).

Haha - I can picture it all now  ;D But, honestly, there's no reason he can't play if he is feeling well, and I hope the Cs are doing everything possible they can to make him available. As has been mentioned, we have 20K people in crowded stadiums not being tested, why let a playoff series be decided by standards that are so hypocritical?

It would be fantastic to get Horford back. Horford and Smart back would be huge. We would be well equipped to handle the loss of Derrick White and still win the game if both those guys are back.

Horford and Timelord to capitalize on Dedmon and Adebayo.

Smart/Grant on Butler. Then the rest of the guys will deal with the rest of the guys. I expect a win tonight after that performance in Game 1. Please do not blow anymore 2nd half leads. Need to steal home-court advantage tonight.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Big Al is back, baby! That certainly makes the White absence much less concerning. Hopefully Smart is 100% good to go.

Horford benefited from new COVID-19 protocol (added Apr. 30) allowing players who test negative twice on a game day to play. Horford likely tested negative after shootaround, then upgraded to questionable and then again this afternoon, making him eligible to play. #Celtics #Heat
