How is Nakobe Dean still available?? Did he do something serious off-the-field we're not aware of?  ???

This the reason?

Per source, Georgia LB Nakobe Dean declined surgery on his shoulder, and it's now a major concern/medical red flag.
Wow, did not know about this! That is really unfortunate.

Yeah it might even be a bit more serious than thought:

Per league source, there’s a feeling inside the #NFL Nakobe Dean is looking at a redshirt year due to Pec tear and meniscus in knee. #NFLDraft

Even as a redshirt his value becomes too good to pass up at some point, right?  I’d rather have Dean than the 25 year old punt returner the Bears just drafted, for instance.
Yeah, and Ojabo was still a 2nd rounder despite an Achilles tear. I can't see a reason why Dean would last until tomorrow.

Patriots select WR Tyquan Thornton

He's a very speedy receiver and probably one of the fastest guys in the Draft which is nice but just like Strange, I'm pretty sure most mocks had him going later lol (not Round 2)

They really felt that had to trade up four spots (or whatever it was) to select this guy? I just don't get it. It's like Bill feels he needs to make trades because that's his reputation. He's outsmarting himself. Seriously.

EDIT: They traded their own pick plus a 5th round pick for Thornton. I really don't get it.

He’s 6’2” and ran the fastest 40’ time during the combine at 4.28 seconds. In 14 games last year at Baylor he had 950 yards receiving and 10TD’s. I’m OK with this pick. Pats haven’t had a deep threat in a long time…

Right. Like the OG Strange pick, it fills a need. I think the knock on these picks is that the Pats could've waited, traded back, etc. Who knows if that's true. I think to the Pats credit, the fact that the next several picks were all WRs bolsters the case that they were smart to trade up to snag the WR that they wanted. So, I am less annoyed by this pick than I was initially.

I don’t think he would have been there and that’s why the Pats moved up to get him. WR’s are in high demand this draft and he’s the fastest one, with good height. The Strange pick I still have a problem with, though. Should have traded out of the first round if he was going to be the target from the beginning.

Actually, the punt returner Velus Jones is someone I was hoping the Pats would draft in a later round as a "double dip" at WR that could also play special teams.

Well, Philly just took Nakobe Dean. So he's off the board. And draft pundits will love it "A+ draft for Philly" and all that.

Now, I just feel back for the QB Willis, who some thought would go in Round 1....

Dear BB, I said I wanted the CB from "Sam Houston State" not the CB from "Houston".
Ah well, can't win em all.

IN any case, looks like the Pats got a CB, and one that has special teams ability. I know nothing about him besides that. Oh and he's small. Oh and the Pats didn't trade up.

It's interesting following Mike Reiss on twitter.

From his tweets, it's clear that the Jim Nagy/ Senior Bowl connection matters to the Pats. Just like the Alabama/ Nick Saban connection.
Seems that the Pats have a few people out there that they really trust, and sort of lean on those folks. Not sure its good/ not good, just interesting to notice.

Willis went from going as high as #6 on mocks to the 3rd qb taken and in the 3rd round. Crazy.

My Ravens are killing it.  Best safety, best center, best olb, 2nd best nose tackle.  Great draft.

He is small, but he's an absolute ball hawk and a very genuine athlete. Elite returner and a pretty decent DB with size limitations. 5 interceptions last season is pretty legit!

What are your thoughts on the Marquise Brown trade / Jackson not being impressed with it?

My favourite draft thus far has, hilariously, been the Jets

Traded our third rounder (94) to Carolina for a fourth (137) and a third next season. Good value there

I think the Ravens had the second best draft so far, behind the Jets. NYJ drafted the #1 ranked DB, WR, and RB. Plus, they got Jermaine Johnson late, which was a steal.

I get it.  Brown wanted out and the Ravens are so run focused it doesn't make a ton of sense value wise to pay a ton for a WR (which is why Brown wanted out).  I think Brown can be very good, but the Ravens weren't going to pay 20 million a year so they traded him a year early to maximize value (similar to the Orlando Brown Jr trade last year)

Yeah, I agree. I think he drops it way too much to be a top money WR. 13 drops in the last two seasons is a lot!

The Jets, Eagles and Ravens have all had stellar Drafts so far and also done a great job filling needs/holes

I wouldn't underestimate the Jets. I still think they are a year away but Saleh is a good coach and even if Wilson makes some improvements and you consider what they've added in FA + the Draft, I don't think they'll be an "easy 2 wins" kind of team for the Pats in the AFC East. And the AFC is already loaded so their path just becomes tougher and tougher

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Jets finish 2nd in the AFC East.  I don't think it will happen it just wouldn't surprise me if they did.  The only thing that would really surprise me in the East is if the Bills don't win the division.
