Once upon a time, if there was a Mt. Rushmore for tactical / technical professional wrestlers, Chris Benoit would have made the cut.  He was a joy to watch.  And then he committed the most heinous act imaginable.

For the technical wrestlers version of Mount Rushmore:
Bret Hart, Mr Perfect, Kurt Angle, and Shawn Michaels

I agree, Chris Benoit would have been on there if he wasn’t a piece of garbage.

BTW, this Mount Rushmore idea could be telling of how old some of the forum members are here  ;).

I know almost nothing about wrestling, but this would be my list, as well. People keep talking about Rick Flair like he is a lock and I have barely heard of the guy.

I realize my lack of knowledge greatly limits my credibility, but as far as popularity and covering more than one generation (the 80s) goes, this seems like a good list.

I'll take another angle (no pun). Top personalities with some combination of presence, mastery of the business, and ring IQ/psychology:

Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, Bobby Heenan, Jake Roberts.

I believe when Dustin Pedroia had his retirement ceremony at Fenway Park this year, Ric Flair was part of the celebration at the end. The whole stadium gave a "woo", which was his signature calling card. The guy is a wrestling legend.

I think that your lack of familiarity with Flair may be because the WWF/WWE has been better at marketing than any other wrestling company.  It's not a coincidence that Hogan was in Rocky III, or that Andre was in Princess Bride.  I put Vince McMahon on my list, because the guy is one of the great marketing geniuses of any business, ever.

But, for those who follow wrestling, Flair is truly legendary.   40 years, a kazillion titles, an iconic look (the robe), nickname (Nature Boy) and catch phrase ("Wooooooooo!").

Speaking of Bobby Heenan, how about a Mount Rushmore for managers?

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, Paul Heyman, Jimmy Hart, and Captain Lou Albano.

The funny part of that is that WWF (Vince Sr.) fired Hogan for doing Rocky three.   His son (Vince Jr.) hired him back.

Hogan
Flair
Austin
Andre

noticed that glaring omission myself.  TP for beating me to it.

the 4 carved in stone: Hogan, Flair, Andre, Sammartino.   period.  everyone else is competing for space on Hill Rushmore.
