Rap fan here so Ill run you through some of mine..

1. Still DRE -- Dr. Dre (greatest producer of all time)
2. Thugz Mansion (Acoustic) ft/ Nas -- Tupac
3. I Love My Life -- Cam'ron
4. When The Music Stops -- Eminem
5. Start From Scratch -- The Game

Restricting me to 5 is really hard so I just picked a few of my favorites here..want some more? just ask
The NBA..where "this whole sport is a business and the referees decide games and David Stern is a snake and is only in this for the money" happens.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Okay...now I have two songs on my list.

1) Heard it through the grape vine, as sung by Marvin Gaye
2) Change Gonna Come-Sam Cooke

It took me forever to remember the second one.

3) American Pie-Don Mclean
4) Yesterday-The Beatles

number 5 is hard. I wanna say like Oh Boy by Buddy Holly..and I wanna say Georgia on my mind by Ray Charles, but Im actually gonna go completely personal here.

Five songs really is completely impossible. Im not sure I could narrow it down to 50, but I can safely say I know all the words to every single one of those songs. And everyone should like them.

hmmm...preliminary attempt:

1. Stevie Wonder - A Place in the Sun
2. Talib Kweli - Around My Way

It's always refreshing to know I'm not the only person to like certain more obscure songs.  I'm a big fans of both of your top 2, not my top 5 material, but good stuff nonetheless.  Always nice to see people appreciate some of the more obscure stuff that hasn't been shoved down our throats by radio...

i completely agree,,,while i do get sucked into commercial stuff...i love T.I.'s Paper Trail,,,,but i love to make my own opinion...TP for liking both those songs

As for A Place In the Sun...it is basically the theme to Rebound: the legend of earl the goat manigault aka my fav. movie of all time....and also my ringtone

I mean Talib's album beautiful struggle was awesome (although I liked Quality better), and rap 1999-2005ish is littered with these kinda albums, Common's Like Water for Chocolate, Mos Def's Black on Both Sides (still my 1a favorite hip hop solo album, 1b is Big's life after death. 1c is the remix of the Black Album, the Grey Album, but I digress)..but when making up my own shibang of 5 songs, I couldn't find one hiphop/rap song I thought I'd honestly qualify, and I used to be a huge hip hop head. Oh, 1d is Mase's Harlem World. its just fun. Jealous Guys was my drunk anthem for years.

But yeah...Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, The Beatles...I mean regardless of taste the music speaks for its self.

It's funny, cuz Rebound is exactly how I got turned on to A Place In the Sun too.  I mean I listen to a lot of Stevie Wonder now, but back then when that movie first came out I didn't even realize that was Stevie singing till I watched the credits roll to try and figure out who that was.

oh dont get me wrong you are preaching to the choir,,i love all your choices,,,,speaking of Yesterday,,have you heard Marvin's version?

I tried to mix up my top 5 with classic and contemporary b/c the OP said Recommendations...but if I was stuck to choose 5 songs to be stuck on a dessert island with,,,it would mos def be some combo of the Temptations, Marvin, Talib, and Mos...and as for the top 5 i put,,i would replace Around My Way with The Proud by Talib

if i could give u a tp right i would (karma block) ...but that exactly what happened to me except it wasnt the credits...it was when he was on the bus to Laurinburg Prep,,,a place in the sun played while he was sitting there thinkin about how his life was going to be so much better....but i def did the same thing.  I was like,,,that sounds like Stevie but I know most of Stevies famous songs.
