I guess depending on what we give up and who we could get on vet mins, a roster of the following could work:

Thomas/Smart/Hayward/George/Horford
Wanamaker?/Brown/Tatum/Thesis/Zizic
Allen/Green?/Nader/Ojeleye/Johnson?
Bird/Yabusele

For what it's worth, I'm still a skeptic on this rumor.  It seems much more likely that it's something the Pacers put out there to encourage the Lakers to step up their game than this is actually sourced from the Celtics.

Jerebko comes back at the vet minimum.  Would he take that?

Can the cs extend and trade players in exchange for for pg? Sign Hayward, then go over the cap to extend Bradley, Smart and/or IT deals, then trade for pg. Even doing so with IT's deal make sense for the celtics as a lineup core of Bradley, Smart, Pg, Hayward, Brown, Tatum, horford would probably be better set for now and later than IT, PG, Hayward, AL and one of Brown and Tatum but no cap to sign quality role players.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: what you're describing is a contract renegotiation, which is allowed. However, you can't go over the cap to do it - you need to use cap space. So any money you added to, say, IT's contract would work against us when making room for Hayward. And, if I'm not mistaken, there are both minimum limits on the length of the contract and trade restrictions (aka you can't trade the player for 6 months/a season) to avoid people using it as that sort of loophole
I'm bitter.

So, who plays PF in a IT - PG - Gordon - Horford lineup?

Newly grown Jaylen?
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

This is very much worth noting. It's always important to ask why a rumor leaks.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Is there any benefit to (assuming Hayward gets signed) trading for George for one year and then having him leave as a free agent?  Is there any cap benefit that might help in 18-19 and beyond?

Having trouble figuring out why they'd do this without being assured he'll sign an extension.
is there anything clearly stating one way or the other if there's an agreement to extend or not?  no extension agreement should lessen the quality of the pick going out to Indy.  still ok with moving AB and Crowder in the deal if we're getting Hayward first

Because the only way to extend George would require too much being sent out in salary to make sense.  (Either every player but Horford and the newly signed Hayward would be traded, including IT, or Horford would have to be moved with at least one other player.)

Are you sure this is right? I've read that it's better for PG to extend now verses after next season so he will get more money in the long run.

It really is dependent upon if Ainge is willing to take a risk and rent him for a year and convince him to stay. Ainge has the assets to either rent him or sign him long term. Indy knows they can't get anything better than that Nets & Lakers pick.

They don't want Love
They don't want Randle, Ingram or Clarkson
They don't want Porter

They are waiting until this weekend...just my opinion.

I'm not sure about that. Danny said on his last interview (toucher and rich) that he has something in mind that would require a precise sequence of events.
Coincidence?

I'd agree with that. Woj doesn't have sources in our front office. I'll be waiting until Bullpet says something about it.

To be fair, though, I said the same thing about the #1 overall pick trade

I don't know where you read that, but that source is wrong

Man, the athleticism of a lineup of IT, Brown, Hayward, George, and Horford would be insane.

Hate to say it, but that lineup has both Showtime and Lob City written all over it. Our open court game would be sick, especially if we force turnovers like we used to, and spacing for IT penetration and kick would be superb.

I would think George could handle playing PF on defense.  How many teams have two bigs who can outmuscle you in the low post in today's NBA?

I understand the skepticism, but what does LA have left to give up (that they'd be willing to do) and how could they possibly beat whatever we could offer?

I meant anything that indicated he wouldn't be open to extending or resigning with the team after the trade whether it's at the 6-month mark or next offseason.

Sources on @TheVertical: Boston working to sequence the acquisitions of Gordon Hayward and Paul George.

https://twitter.com/WojVerticalNBA/status/879766343867912193
I can't open twitter at work.  can someone recap it for me for a TP?

Woj simply stated that Ainge's plan is to trade for George after they sign Hayward, which is contingent on whether or not they can get a handshake agreement with Gordon before hand, so they can make the trade easily after FA.

Woj reports that the only issue is that Pacers may or may not want to wait, and may go ahead and trade for someone else, or that Hayward simply flakes. Which then Woj reports, Griffin may also be a second option just incase Hayward doesn't work out, and that George may stay if involved in a championship caliber kind of team.
thank you - TP.  sounds less sure than the original post made it sound.
