having a deep bench on a team without stars is like having a really nice paint job on a car that doesn't run.

The bench is very deep, but here is the problem, a lot of our guys are bench quality players and we lack stars.  We should still be fun to watch and play hard.  But good starters often overcome a team of bench guys, unless they have an injury.   Heck, the Cavs whooped us last year even with an injury.

Deepest bench! Our whole roster is a deep bench team.
Hahahaha
Our best player just averaged 8.2mpg while racking up 8 DNP's during a championship run... you hear that, notbill?... a CHAMPIONSHIP run.   Banner #17 here we come.

Only matters if we can turn a few them into an All-Star. Deep means nothing without stars.

Can anybody list the last team that won/made the finals without a true bonafide star.

Yes, a bench that runs 13 or 15 deep.

Just need Silver to approve a 20 man roster and get a few above average starters and an All-Star or two in here.

03/04 Pistons. I've seen people argue 13/14 Spurs as well.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

03/04 Pistons.

They had 4 guys in their starting lineup who were better at that point in time than anybody currently on our team.

They had guys who had more star quality than are guys, get real.   Parker and Duncan were stars, maybe long in the tooth but they were stars.   Leonard is a star in the making too.  The Pistons were a better example, but Ben Wallace, Prince and Rip and Chauncey in their primes would eat our team alive.    We don't have players of that quality folks.

I would argue Ben Wallace was a star for that Pistons team. He had already won a pair of DPOY awards prior to the championship team. And Rasheed probably wasn't a "star" but he was certainly a known quantity around the league and in the media.

That said, I'm on the Marcus Smart train. I think he can be be a star, if not a superstar. And we'll see what Danny can do with trades and with those Brooklyn picks. Those picks are probably, still, our best chance at nabbing a superstar.

Depth means having proven players in their slot (6th, 7th, 8th man, etc.) better than players in the same slot on other teams.  Depth isn't having 15 (or whatever number you want to give) players that might make a rotation.

This team is not deep so can we stop that already.

The 2010-11 Celtics team probably had the deepest bench. Still bummed that injuries messed up our chances that year :-X

PG: Rajon Rondo/Delonte West/Carlos Arroyo
SG: Ray Allen/Avery Bradley/Von Wafer
SF: Paul Pierce/Jeff Green/Sasha Pavlovic
PF: Kevin Garnett/Glen Davis/Troy Murphy
C: Shaq/Jermaine O'Neal/Nenad Krstic
Look at all those C's :o

THIS and I still liked our team those first couple years w/out Ray.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!
