Celts could of had Leonard for Jaylen Brown

was it a mistake by Danny to not take the chance?  or are you still ok, that he didn't make that trade?

Masai from the Raptors looking like a genius right now

1. It would have cost more than just Jaylen Brown.

2. No one knew much about his injury/health to that point which is why he was available for long time

3. I think Danny (and even C's fans in general) looked at AD as the dream trade, and still do

I wanted Kawhi last summer at the "right price" but I don't blame Danny for not making a trade. Like we talk about with AD now, Kawhi's a rental himself so we wouldn't know if he wanted to stay, and it seemed the Spurs also preferred a "win-now" piece, which they viewed in DeRozan (an established star).

part of the issue is i think toronto wouldn't mind "losing" demar if KL leaves and we would not want to lose Brown if/when he leaves

I don't think the Celts could've gotten Kawhi for just Jaylen Brown. First off, the salaries don't come close to matching.

It probably would've taken Kyrie and more.

I really don't think the C's could have ever realistically nabbed him. SAS still wanted pieces to win this season to couple with Aldridge, and DeRozan offered more of that than anything we could have offered.

That being said I wish he was a Celtic

you are absolutely right

but still...

Celts could of had Leonard for Brown and Rozier and a 1st.  And Spurs would have rather taken this package than for the one they got from Toronto. Can't blame them as it was likely the best they could get at the end of the day

Not until they win a title and/or they keep Kawhi is when we can say Masai Ujiri won the gamble. If Kawhi leaves, he's stuck with Paskal Siakam as their main piece moving forward.

Maybe Ujiri had the cojones to do that trade, but I'm glad Danny didn't risk it. I don't know if it will be worth giving up a ton for one year of Leonard.

And they probably didn't just want Jaylen Brown, they probably would have asked for more.

disagree

rumor was Spurs liked Brown a lot.... but Celts were not interested in making the deal

perhaps for Rozier and multiple 1sts?  but not for Brown due to risk that Leonard was damaged goods/play the injury game or just walk after a season

it was risky but for the Raptors it has worked out perfectly

As I said at the time, I would have taken that gamble.  I get why Danny didn’t, but you only get so many chances to land an MVP candidate.

Spurs got Derozan, Poetl and a pick I believe

seriously is Derozan that much better than Brown?  in terms of "what have you done" .... yes

but considering age, salary and potential....Brown has the edge

I just think that ultimately San Antonio wanted to try and maximise Pop's last years with playoff runs. Plus, Poeltl was a solid addition.

If it was Danny refusing to make the move because of JB then he's deserving of criticism. Kawhi is legit

has to be...because what else could it have been

Also someone else pointed out....how close CBS and Pops are. They run workshops etc

maybe this came into play ...
