I have no liked a Tom Cruise movie since like....I mean really forever.
No longer. It's not some arrogant social statement. It's not some weird drama. It is just a plain old action flick with some love interest thrown in. If nothing else, it's a heck of a trailer.

Although, obligatory Tom Cruise joke...I imagine his courtship of Katie Holmes went something like what happens around 2:00 mins.

Knight & Day was filmed in Boston... just another reason to see it.
You didn't like Eyes Wide Shut? That is somewhere in my top 5 all time favorite movies.
TC movies I like: War of the Worlds, Collateral, Eyes Wide Shut, Rain Man, The Outsiders...
TC movies I am under the impression I will like: Knight & Day, The Last Samurai, Minority Report, Magnolia, A Few Good Men...

Not at all... I really don't understand all of the hate for Eyes Wide Shut. It really is one of my favorite movies. I don't see any flaws with it. I've heard every complaint there is on that movie and I just disagree with all of them.
Never seen Jerry Maguire or Vanilla Sky. Vanilla Sky sounds like a movie I would like (psychological right?)... but it has terrible reviews... then again Eyes Wide Shut does as well but I love that.

Freaky, Bud ... I was just gonna post the same thing, lol! I could never stand Tom Cruise until "Minority Report", and I have to say, I also love "Mission Impossible 3" ... it was the most realistic of the MI movies ... the other two were just way too far-fetched, but MI3 is an awesome flick.

i am all for psychological thrillers or that type,,eyes wide shut just gave me the creeps however and i usually have a high threshold for that sort of stuff

No love for TC in The Color of Money?
-
I am also an Eyes Wide Shut fan although not top 5 of all time...
and TP for the post title. I used to teach English abroad and when I played games in class my students' favorite team name was "Monkey's Red Butt"

People usually have very strong feelings towards Vanilla sky. Some hate it alot, some absolutely love it. No middle. I do love it and my advise is - see it and decide for yourself. Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. the reviews.
I think Tom is a good actor. People love to hate him about things non related to films, but I don't really care about that.

Collateral
THIS.

The last Samurai was good, and I liked The Firm.
-
I can't think of many Tom Cruise movies I *didn't* like. I really liked both Eyes Wide Shut and Vanilla Skye, and Valkyrie was really good, I thought. Magnolia, Minority Report, War of the Worlds... all were good, I thought. Born on the Fourth of July, Far and Away, Days of Thunder, even Cocktail... I like all of these movies.
I wasn't a huge fan of The Firm, and Tropic Thunder wasn't that great, in my opinion (and he was good in his role). Those are the only Cruise movies I didn't really care for, off the top of my head.

Forgot Far and Away. That was good.

i like tom cruise the actor, but dont like tom cruise the man.

"Nobody Move and do not follow us, because I will kill myself, and then Her!"
--Haha that is great.
-
I could care less about Tom Cruise the man. I just don't like him as an actor. I feel like he has too much ego. He always tries to make it about him rather than the character and often, IMO, over-acts as a result.
He takes himself a little too seriously. It's the same way I feel about Redford or Richard Gere or even Daniel Day Lewis to a certain extent (although he's incredibly talented--not that the other guys aren't).
I did like his role in Tropic Thunder however

Can't believe nobody mentioned Jerry.

hahaha The Natural was the first sports movie I saw as a kid. I must have watched it at least 20-30 times between the ages of 9 and 9 1/2.

Shout out for the Garden at 20 seconds into the trailer!

Ya true. I have my issues with that movie but I think it is one of the more interesting looks into the business side of sports that I've seen.

shookones I was with you 100% up until you had to bring in Redford, Daniel Day Lewis, and Richard "Pooh-Bear Eyes" Gere.

There's no doubt that I like Redford and Daniel Day Lewis more as actors. I just think they fit into the category of actors who need to take a step back and laugh at themselves every once in a while. And let the rest of the world laugh with them.

the dude's career will never be the same after revealing his scientology obsession even though i personally think aliens makes more sense than a zombie carpenter that was on a suicide mission. i really cannot believe catholics, mormons, muslims, whatever .. are calling this guy crazy. glass houses, people!!!
i don't think he's a GREAT actor but i enjoyed some of his movies a lot.

Thanks for the personal jab at my beliefs even though I have not personally heard a Mormon call Tom Cruise crazy. I frankly don't consider what I do a glass house or crazy and I wouldn't criticize anything Tom Cruise believes since that is his preference.
Also, TP's for everyone that gave love to the late Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut". Highly misunderstood film.
-
i like tom cruise the actor, but dont like tom cruise the man.
the last samurai is my fav movie of his, by far!
I just personally did not care for his treatment of Brooke Shields and Matt Lauer. He was extremely rude and came off as a complete "Know-it-all" instead of just stating his beliefs.

I realize this is not on point, but show me proof of matter creating itself.
And then tell me how thats not as far out as believing in a "zombie carpenter". But I guess believing matter creating itself is much more believable than what christians believe. It happens all the time right?
Until you can prove it then I believe it would be beneficial to keep the cheap shots to yourself.

And that's my feelings exactly. No one has mentioned "Born on the 4th of July"?

Interview With a Vampire is another very good movie with Cruise in it. Also I don't know how anyone can not like Top Gun. I'm also a fan of Cocktail.
I actually didn't think I liked many movies he was in until I read some of the posts. Vanilla Sky, Magnolia, Jerry Maguire, Rainman, these are movies I can watch multiple times

And yet no one else but me has mentioned The Color of Money. I can't be the only one to have seen it.
TC in the "Vince" T-shirt, singing "Werewolves of London." Absolutely nails the role.
-
While not my favorite he's been in some movies I liked. Some were already mentioned but I would add Risky Business, and I personally thought he was really funny in Tropic Thunder.
It's almost impossible to be in as many movies as he's been and not like any of them.

Yep. He's at the top for the last 30 years. Nobody can take that from him.

Dang it all, I almost got to be the one remembering Risky Business, can't believe the thread went so far without a mention....Color of Money and Born on Fourth of July, both good and both mentioned previously to the not-being-mentioned post.
I loved Eyes Wide Shut. The movie creeped me out so bad that my roommate was able to torture me just by humming that weird music from that weird place....I'm a huge Stanley Kubrick fan, but I expected not to like Eyes due to reviews and due to Tom Cruise being in it. Well, the movie was so strong it just took all the Tom out of Tom....I mean, it didn't matter, you could sit there knowing it was Tom Cruise and not caring (his persona became irrevelant or just dissolved completely or something..)...
Anyway, I've liked Tom being Tom in lots of movies....Risky Business near the top.
I liked Jerry Maguire, but the Tom factor was a bit strong....(when he overdoes the angry outburst thing it weakens his performance imo).

Best Tom Cruise movie: Top Gun. I get chills down my spine when I only think about it.

However, I do like making fun of him as much as the next person I guess.

+1 for Killers for having Talking Heads on the soundtrack. TP for the heads up.
Now I wonder which movie copied which.
-
Seen the preview for the movie multiple times and I have to say, it looks absolutely awful.
Tom Cruise is bad enough, but Cameron Diaz? Oh boy.

Jeez you know I am so sick of all the negativity on this blog. First 'KG will never get healthy!', then 'Rondo runs like a lady', and 'Scal's fake tan is affecting his jumpshot' or 'Don't look now, but Shelden Williams' head is growing LARGER!'
Now, we're picking on Cameron Diaz. The same bellisimo actress who starred in such edge of seat thrill rides as 'What Happens In Vegas', or 'Charlie's Angels, Full Throttle'. Is there no end to this cynicism? Come on guys.
/ridiculous fake rant.

But seriously I'm still gonna watch this movie. Just like I watched "The Bounty Hunter". For Free.
