Lebron can opt out, can't he?  I don't see Houston needing to give up any assets, just create the necessary cap space.

If we try to trade for KAT, I expect that Jaylen Brown will be gone.

If we trade TRoz -- hopefully we get back at least a pick from 6-10.  Maybe we take a shot on Bamba, if he lasts that long, Michael Porter Jr, or someone with size and upside.

6. Sacramento implodes, unwittingly making themselves the worst team in the league next year.

6) Sacramento won't be the worst team and they have no incentive to tank.

I'm just going to point out that the Kings have had seven top 10 picks in the last six years, and they have come up with:

Bismack Biyombo
Thomas Robinson
Ben McLemore
Nik Stauskas
Willie Cauley-Stein
Skal Labissiere
De'Aaron Fox

Forget stars - as of now there are zero legit NBA starters in that group.

Let's not underestimate the Kings' ability to screw things up.

I looked up the C's last seven top 10 picks, ignoring ones we traded:

Jayson Tatum
Jaylen Brown
Marcus Smart
Joe Johnson
Paul Pierce
Chauncey Billups
Ron Mercer

How does Houston create the cap space?  They are already at 78M for only 7 players.  That doesn't include CP3 or Capella.  So even if they let CP3 and Capella walk they'd still have less than 20M in cap space and Lebron is getting 35M.

So what?  I didn't claim that the Kings drafted well although I do like Fox.  Only 3 of the players you mentioned are still on the Kings.  The Kings finished 7th worse this season when they had an incentive to tank.  I see no reason that they'd finish much worse next season.

Yeah they can't just create cap space. A S&T is really the only option. Maybe Lebron opts-out but then CLE re-signs him to slightly below max (like 25-30M/Year), and then HOU does a S&T.

Apparently, there's a rumor out there saying that the Mavericks are not interested in a Brown, Rozier + #27 package for #5. They want Tatum instead of Brown

LOL there's no way Ainge even ships Brown (former #3) for a #5 pick. Now if it got Boston into the Top-3, maybe, but I still highly doubt it. Jaylen is as close to untouchable unless it's for someone like Anthony Davis.

C’s-related, these are my hopes:
1. Kyrie, GH and Theis all recover 100%
2. We sell high on Rozier and other parts to make a mid-splashy trade (ala Bradley for Morris)
3. We resign Smart at a reasonable contract (not 14+ please)
4. We keep Monroe as a backup. We let Nader go (back to the D league?). Larkin, I’m indifferent.

Non-C’s related, these are my hopes:
1. Lebron leaves Cleveland for Houston
2. Toronto blows it up. It ain’t working, boys!
3. JJ Redick leaves Philly. He’s a classy guy and doesn’t seem like a culture fit in PhiLA
4. Klay Thompson leaves GSW (lol)
5. Kawhi comes back healthy, in a Spurs uniform or otherwise
6. Sacramento implodes, unwittingly making themselves the worst team in the league next year.

6) Sacramento won't be the worst team and they have no incentive to tank.

Wasn't that said about the Nets in 2017?

They don't need any incentives to stink. They have the least amount of talent in the league. Whoever they draft will automatically be their best player by a significant margin.

Sacramento's leading scorer was Zach Randolf. He'll be 37 next year. They have a few useful role players, but no one who probably will ever evolve into a quality starter.

Take a look at all the teams they beat out this year. All of them look better than Sacramento. The only worry is that they get Doncic and he has a great first year. Otherwise they will probably look fondly back at the glory days of 2017-18

This idea that teams with no incentive to tank won't stink up the joint is out of touch with reality, there have been countless teams through the decades with no incentive to tank but have coughed up high lottery picks to other franchises.

Brooklyn the last 3 years
The Nets in 2012 in the Gerald Wallace trade
The Nets in 2011 in the Deron Williams trade
The Knicks in 2006 & 2007 in the Eddie Curry trade
The Grizzlies in 2003 to the Pistons for Otis Thorpe
Going back further you had the Clippers in 1986, Cavs in 1982, Detroit in 1980 , The Jazz back in 79 .
All those teams had no incentive to tank, but they sucked anyways.

Not to say that the Kings are going to be a dead certainity to finish as one of the bottom 5 teams in the league, but incentive or not , if they suck they will suck incentive or not, There is still a at a maximum 14% chance that the 76ers will end up with the top pick, something for the Process supporters to cling to  ;)

TP. Well said.

Also, you have to realize that quite a few of the bad teams this year could also be rising next year and some have the potential to add talent (make win-now moves). Unless the Kings add a star player this summer.. they'll likely project to be in the bottom of the pack again to be honest (maybe not bottom-3, but bottom-5 is likely).

that is very good advice. with "no incentive to tank" the kings draft picks since 2010 have been: 5,7,5,7,8,6,8,5...and that is with cousins on the team for all but the first one. they are a terribly managed and run team.

that sacramento pick should be a good one next year.
