Chris Mullin said tonight We play small, and slow. We have poor spacing we took nine three's tonight. While the Knicks shoot 30 sometimes 40 threes  a night playing small.

"they are asking Pierce and Garnett to do the same things they were doing four years ago, and haven't really surrounded them with any talent. Mullin is a simple man. But correct here.

Lottery team right now, no doubt...

Small and slow is a good description. Especially compared to Chicago. I couldn't get over how much bigger, quicker and more athletic the Bulls looked in that second period with Noah, T.Gibson and Deng out there together. Belinelli and Hinrich in the backcourt too.

I think getting Avery Bradley back will really help here. He doesn't have the size but he has elite quickness and explosive athleticism. For a team who's defense is built more around quickness and finesse, Bradley's physical and defensive talent is key.

I was looking up the team stats the other day and I was shocked to see how low Boston ranked on three point attempts. They have taken the third fewest three point attempts in the league.

With long distance shooters like Pierce, Terry and Lee ... I expected them be much higher.

New York lead the league in three point attempts with double as many as Boston have. Against the league average, Boston has about 34% less three point attempts than that league average.

They are taking very few three pointers.

Great way to put it.

The Celtics play small, but don't have the roster to take advantage of playing small -- i.e. playing quick and taking a lot of outside shots.

I think this roster has the talent to succeed, but it's just not coming together in a way that's conducive to winning.

Yeah, I read not long ago that the Celtics took many, many more 3 pointers in 2008 and 2010.  No coincidence that those were the years that the team had the most success.

If you're going to rely on jumpshots to succeed, it's way more efficient to take a lot of threes than to take a lot of mid-range shots, like the Celtics do this year.

Avery Bradley will help, but a small shooting guard who plays excellent on ball defense is not going to turn this team around. The paint defense is brutal. I think they will make the playoffs, but no better than a 5th seed. At times, KG seems to be the only guy playing his butt off. So frustrating.

The biggest issue though is Danny has given Doc a bunch of players who don't fit into his system and he is trying to force it down their throats. This has not and will not work and I see a somewhat ugly ending.

They never get open. Ball movement is nonexistent, Rondo is just dribbling out the clock waiting for Terry and Pierce to get open. They are not fast enough to get open and we don't have any great screeners to get them open. The only way to get them to shoot more 3 pointers is better ball movement, but this ain't never gonna happen since Doc thinks our offense is good and hasn't made one single adjustment since the beginning of the season...

Yeah the names Courtney lee, 35 year old Terry, Jeff green, Chris Wilcox, rookie jared sullinger, and Brandon bass just don't have much sizzle like in the off season.

What hurts is just the expectations for the team were so high. Coming off game 7 in the ECF finals and adding so much more depth made me believe we would instantly be elite.

Were a disaster plain and simple. Were not even fun to watch either. Low energy and inconsistent intensity. It's depressing honestly.

Well think about it. We lost the best three point shooter in the world. Both his replacements can't hit the broad side of a barn. Lee barely attempts them now with any confidence. He pumps takes a dribble and steps inside for the worst shot there is, a long two.

That's all kg does. He hits them for the most part but long twos are his arsenal. At this point he's the perfect fir next to a big who can face up and explode to the basket or do work on the block. We have neither.

Rondo cant hit threes either. He's become a long two specialist. He's beginning to make them buts as a result he's more reluctant to settle and not attack the basket.

Green can only hit them from the corner and plays only half the game. And pierce is shooting his lowest percentage in years from outside right now.

I think one area that we will be better once AB gets back is 3 point shooting.  The reason is AB's cutting to the basket.  Avery made a living last year just hustling and looking for backdoor cuts to the rim.  That effort and hustle helped the rest of the team get better looks.

I am always so shocked about how hard we make the game sometimes.  It is pretty simple if you can get guys to move without the ball, and then move the ball.  2 or 3 times of AB getting easy back door baskets will start bringing help into the paint, and loosen up the perimeter D on us.

We could also just be aggressive and take the ball to the hoop.  but for whatever reason we don't ever do that.

Pierce and Terry are both slightly above their career averages in terms of three point attempts per game. Obviously they're getting open for the shots. Terry's down from his average and so is Barbosa, but not by a ton. Bradley might help with more threes but we don't have Posey/House/Pietrus type of players on the bench this year.

Well sure, but the point is, you'd rather base your offense around guys who can take and make threes around 38-40+ percent of the time rather than hitting two pointers 45-50 percent of the time.

Right now, the offense centers around taking long twos.  Even hitting a good percentage of those -- for long twos -- you're still hitting less than 50%.

The Celtics have shooters who can take and make threes, but we're not maximizing those attempts.
