Something to think about.

Brian Scalabrini, the end of bench big for the 2007-08 Celtics made $3 million that year. That's $8.4 million in 2022-23 dollars.

Can you imagine the uproar on this site if Brad had Luke Kornet making $8.4 million this year?

It's a different game than even 15 years ago.  Teams averaged 18.1 3PT attempts per game back then.  Today, teams attempt 34.1 3PTs per game.

If they played a game where teams were limited to 20 3PAs per game, I think the 2008 team would win.  If the 2008 team was dropped into the modern era without adjustment, the current team would win.

Oops, checking my numbers I based it of the 2023-23 apron number not the cap.

Should be $7.2 million.

Good catch. TP

Scal made $3 million of the $55.6 million salary cap. Same percentage of the $134 million cap this year equals $7.2 million

Point still stands. Can you imagine Kornet making $7.2 million?

Nope.  That was one of the weirder signings.  I think Danny was trying to establish a culture, but starting with a pure glue guy was bizarre.

07-08 won a title and defense was stout and smashmouth. Give me 07-08 bench over 22-23 bench twice a day.

I'll reconsider 22-23 squad once we win a title tho!

I posted this match-up because I really believe it would be an extremely tactical battle.

In 2008, Rondo was still a hard working defender, although he would be much too thin to defend Smart, especially if he’s backing him down. Alternatively, Rondo would been too agile for Smart on the break and Rondo’s length would close off Smart’s passing lanes.

Ray Allen’s offensive perimeter movement would be a nightmare for Jaylen Brown, who’s biggest weakness is off-ball defence. Ray, in turn, would get killed on defence again a superior athletic Brown.

The Tatum and Pierce match-up would be an amazing one on one duel. Tatum’s length probably gives him an edge, but let’s not forget Pierce did a fantastic job against LeBron in 2008.

Rob Williams would match up well defensively against Garnett, but would essentially be irrelevant on offence against prime defensive Garnett.

I’d imagine Horford’s ability to stretch the floor would eventually force Doc to bench Perkins.

Really want to see Tony Allen guard Marcus Smart. Might not be the primary matchup but switches happen.

Heck, I’d like to see Allen guarding any of them.

Don't know about this year's defense, but...

February 2022's team beats 2008. There, I said it.

Still think that the dominance of Kevin Garnett would give that '08 Celtics team an advantage. And it's not like they were devoid of talent outside the big three - Perkins and Tony Allen are high-talent defensive specialists that created one of the greatest defences in NBA history alongside a GOAT level anchor in KG.
