She just won a gold medal as the head coach of the 3x3 team.

Kara Lawson is an Olympic gold medalist. Again.

Lawson took on the lead coaching duties of the United States women’s 3x3 basketball team in addition to her role as head coach of Duke women’s basketball, and she now has some hardware to show for it.

The team topped the Russian Olympic Committee 18-15 Wednesday to bring home the gold after going 6-1 in the preliminary round. Lawson and company brought home the first gold medal to ever be given out with 3x3 basketball being in its inaugural year in the Olympic Games.

Thank you for saying it, so that I didn’t have to.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

3 on 3 games are actually incredibly awesome opportunities for coaching. It's the game of choice for a lot of coaches to work on different pick and roll strategies (because the spacing of 3 players requires offensive players to move more efficiently and makes defensive players pick a strategy and execute it to a T, or else).

I just heard the other day on NBA radio that the coaches do not get a medal so she won it congratulations but unless they changed the rules then she won't even get one which sucks.

That's cool. The 3v3 has made for some good watching. Such a different way of playing

Assuming tongue-in-cheek, but biting anyway; Doesn't literally every Olympic sport have a coach?

I've been trying to get into a 3v3 league for a while. It's such a fun sport. Way more space on the court to move, and at the same time, way more man-to-man defence, which I personally absolutely love. As a defence-first guy, it's just nice, since there's no place to hide :)

No coaching is allowed during the games.  It is all on the players.  Coaches are only for practice.

It is more fun to watch than an NBA game.  They ought to scrap the all-star game and have a 3x3 tournament.

One of the best parts is that with the continuous play there isn't all the griping to the refs.

I would love for a 3v3 mini-tournament. The All-Star game will never be truly scrapped I don't think, but replacing the Rookie v Sophomore game (whatever it's called nowadays) for a 3v3 thing would be good. Maybe if the Big3 tournament keeps building it can add pressure to that.
