Honestly to do this right you really do need more than 10 teams. I mean every team is basically going to have a HOFer at every slot with that few teams. If we do go with 10, I'd like to see a narrowing of the time-period. You know maybe something like only players drafted in the 80's and 90's or something like that. It would make the team building more varied and much more critical (like for your 8th man do you take the HOFer or the quality role player that is a specialist more suited for that role). If it is every player in league history there really isn't going to be enough separation between the teams when you have have 10 teams picking.
And I'm fine just ranking the teams from 1 to 10 with 10 points for 1, 9 points for 2, etc. If you have a team, you just rank your own as 1, unless of course you don't think you had the best team and as long as everyone with a team votes it makes no real difference to the outcome. And if you want more voters you can open that up to the rest of the blog.
Yup. Moranis is right on on this and this was exactly what I was referring to. As I am sure Moranis remembers, we did an all time, every player draft with 16 teams and even then, it was ridiculously difficult to pick a winner.
We did things by awards for different teams, in the Historical Draft. Best Overall Team, Best Defensive Team, Best Offensive Team, etc. Then had awards for Best Overall Player, Best Defensive Player, Best 6th Man, Best Offensive Player, etc. It generally made it so a bunch of teams got recognized for some reason through a team or a player they drafted.
I thought the fun part was in selecting the team based on years. Like I remember someone drafting John Havlicek a bit early but that's because they wanted Hondo's best 6th Man year. I think that is brilliant team building.
Others later on picked players who may not have had great careers but had an amazing year or so. Bernard King and Jayson Williams come to mind. Again, great team building.
But you had to do that when there were going to be 192 players selected rather than 120.
