1st season stands with any first season ever made.

Interesting subquestion while we wait for the next pick; tough do a really good first season of a show. Anyone got any thoughts on 'best' first season of a show?

Off the top of my head, the best first season I think is 'Friday Night Lights.'

It's the only one of my favorite shows where I was like 'wow, this is an incredible show' after one season. Others, 'Breaking Bad' comes to mind, generally have the 'this has the makings to be an incredible show'

edit: From a comedy stand point, even though season 2 was way better, tough to beat Arrested Development. That show was awesome right out of the gates.

Kinda is the esque of the Peter Jennings question but are stand up comedians allowed even though they aren't necessarily characters in a tv show? (Unless the of course have their own tv show.)

Despite the bad rep it gets, I actually like S2 of FNL as well

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Twin Peaks is still really unlike anything that's been made since. You'd want to compare it to a show like Psych or Monk or something, a quirky/funny type of show that fosters an insular fanbase, kind of inaccessible in a 'pick it up anywhere' kind of way, but its not. Twin Peaks was never a monster/case of the week thing, and it delves into the paranormal, it goes funny, it goes absurd, but it also has painfully touching dramatic moments of human suffering. And I don't mean like...saw, but like, human moments where you have actual sympathy for the characters on stage.

And of course everything is crisply written, dialogue is amazing, and you really can't blink or you'll miss something you'll realize later was blatant foreshadowing.

At least that's how I remember watching it years ago. It's getting a new season on showtime in 2016.

I don't think there was really a bad season of FNL, but I really did hate those 'Tammy-heavy' episodes.

Ya, it's still very watchable. Couple really bad plot lines, but I'd still take it over most others

Minka Kelly turning to god wasn't the best, either

What?

WHAT?

OKAY!

(Also: Twin Peaks is so, so cheeseball in some of its dialog and settings. Lynch has always had a thing for Apple Pie Americana, as it were, and TP does his Leave it To Beaver [if Beaver were an alien] thing better than almost anything).

OR

Can you use a TV show that was remade since then but with different actress/character?
