Squeaked out a win vs. MIL in BOS.  Not what I would call a great win vs. a MIL team without their best player, but pretty good end of game execution.  They let MIL back in it several times, which you don't like to see.  Started to walk up the court on offense.

We have 13 games to go, most against lower tier teams.  Exceptions are vs OKC and @ MIL.  Those are clearly games against other top teams.  We have been around 0.500 vs the top teams, so expect 1-1.  Then we have @NOP, vs SAC and vs. NYK.  Those are non-playin playoff teams, but teams you expect to beat, at least 2 of 3.  That leaves 8 games vs Playin or lower teams, we should beat.

Should be 10-11 wins, unless we really go into rest mode towards the end (which I hope we don't).  That means 65-66 total wins, if things follow script.

Boston is going to need to address attacking the zone defense. Bucks threw it at them and then you know the Heat will

That is a lot of money.  Certainly well deserved in the grand scheme of things.

Jayson Tatum has reached the 65-game criteria.

He is now eligible for postseason honors, including All-NBA.

Named to the All-NBA team in 2022 and 2023, Tatum has already met the super max criteria.

He is eligible to sign a five-year and up to $315M extension starting in July.

The extension is the largest in NBA history.

His teammate Jaylen Brown signed a five-year $288M super max extension last July.

We've fared well against the zone previously this season.  I chalk up the struggles last night to available personnel, along with losing some focus late.

Specifically, we played Tillman a lot last night and I think his weaknesses were exposed.  Defending us is a lot easier when he's sitting out in the corner, as opposed to Jrue or Hauser.  Tillman is a nice defender but he contributes nothing on offense and is an active liability when the opposing team just disrespects him like the Bucks did.

We are 53-13 when Hauser plays (0.803 winning percentage).  We are 2-1 when he doesn't play (0.667 winning percentage).  It is the Hauser factor why we couldn't hold leads vs. MIL.

fortunately hauser has appeared in 66 games this season so the mvp is pretty much wrapped up.

C's could clinch the 1 seed in the East with a win tomorrow + MIL loss Sunday. It's only March 22

I hear Gilbert Arenas dissing the Celtics saying they haven't been relevant for the last 30 years and most of their banners coming from an 8-team league lol this guy with zero rings

I hear the "only 8 teams" bit pretty often, but what people don't seem to realize is that someone had to win the title each year, and no one else was doing it but Boston. If it was so easy, why wasn't any other team ever winning it?

The Lakers were pretty stacked at that time but never won, and I don't think it was easy to beat a team that featured Jerry West and Elgin Baylor.

Plus, what does Arenas know about winning basketball?

The Boston Celtics have clinched the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They have 11 games left to play. It's the 3rd time since 1988 they've done it (2008, 2017). The Celtics were the top seed in the East eight times in nine years from 1980-88.

What guys like this don't realize is that it was harder to win with fewer teams. The player talent wasn't diluted like today. Every team was stacked.

It's willful ignorance.

That is cool. The 1983 76ers must be the one year they weren't the top seed.

I am surprised they were the top seed every year. The 76ers had some 60 win teams during that period. So did the Bucks. The Pistons were just getting started in 1988.

So I looked it up, Philly had 59 wins in 1980 and 62 wins in 1981. Boston was tied at 62 wins that year in 1981. They must have had the tie-breaker whatever that was. Philly had a better scoring margin. Philly had a 58 win season in 1982 when they made the finals. Then 65 wins in 1983 with Moses. A disappointing 52 wins the next year with 58 wins in 1985. 54 wins in 1986. Then they trade Moses and start the Barkley with no help years.

Milwaukee had 60 wins in 1981. That Bob Lanier and Marques Johnson team. Moncrief was just getting started. 14ppg 5rpg 3apg. That team was awesome. So deep on the wings. Three lower years at 55 wins, 51 wins and 50 wins. Back up to 59 wins in 1985 and 57 wins in 1986 after Terry Cumming joins and Paul Pressey becomes part of their core. 50 wins in 1987. I am surprised. I thought they had a 60 win team with Sikma. I suppose 59 wins is close enough!

Detroit had 52 wins in 1987 and 54 wins in 1988 before topping at 63 wins and 59 wins in 1989 and 1990 breaking Boston's grasp on the East.

So Boston went for 61 wins in 1980, 62 wins (tied) in 1981, 63 wins in 1982, only 56 wins in the 76ers big year in 1983, 62 wins in 1984, 63 wins in 1985, 67 wins in 1986, 59 wins in 1987, 57 wins in 1988. Then Bird gets hurt. Misses a season. Never the same again.

Still bounce back as a 52 win, 56 win and 51 win over Bird's final 3 years.

So they had 6 out of 7 seasons with 60+ wins from 1980 to 1986 and 59 wins in the 8th year. The final year slowing down to 57 wins. Heck of a run.

Wait, I'm confused why we play AT Atlanta tonight... and then AGAIN AT Atlanta Thursday? Meanwhile, ATL also has a home game against the Blazers Wednesday night. So do the Celtics just stay in ATL all week and just attend the Blazers-Hawks game for fun?  :P
