During a rebuild Ainge's plan is actually simple.

1. Improve the team's talent in trades, draft, free agency when the opportunity is there.
2. Acquire assets to help with future deals (picks, players).
3. Develop the talent on the team.

He has been upfront about this. A rebuild rarely happens quickly.

A proper rebuild is not still having 2 or 3 class b players on the team. Bc you are stuck in no mans land . Just good enough to be the 6th or 7th worse team in the league. This trade doesnt mean anything if danny cant flip the assets to actually improve the team.  I hope he can and will be aggressive

year 1 in the rebuild plan is just done...

don't be impatient...rebuilds usually take a few years with the first 2 or 3 years sucking very badly...

give it time

Making moves for the sake of making moves is how teams get stuck in mediocrity, so we should hope that he doesn't force any deals out of a desire to be aggressive.

Agreed.

Flexibility & assets is where Danny has gotten us so far.  2 very important things.  Especially for a rebuild.

You use those assets and flexibity to strike when the iron is hot.   You don't waste them making moves just for the sake of making moves.

This has been designed as a multi year rebuild since the BKN trade last summer.  People got spoiled by the summer of '07 but that was an exception rather than the norm.  Rebuilds like that don't happen very often.   It's not going to happen overnight this time around for the Celtics.

Ppl keep saying the word rebuild yet danny sounded like at the end of last season it is not going to be .

If we got asik and afflalo would this be still be considered a rebuild??

Other teams like the 76ers are not drafting payton to crowed the pg position. They already have MCW and got a draft and stash player in saric. The gm to me has a plan in how he wants his team to look like in 2 or 3 years.

Whats is danny doing?? Lets draft smart, young, overpay for AB.  Ask thomas if he wants to sign. Ask bazemore to come.

So basically all of you guards can kill each other for playing time while little to nothing is getting resolved elsewhere??

Im not happy with what is happening currently. Doesnt mean danny cant make things better but im not optimistic about it

The compiling of guards kind of suggests we're going to packed them in a deal sometime soon..

Also, people need to be patient. Our team isn't suppose to make sense. It's not like we're trying to compete for a championship next year. No one said this was a 2 year rebuild.

What we have are assets. DA is trying to get the best assets possible in order to make a trade.

Gotta eat crow now buddy.  Danny can't be lost and do this.   Nice work Danny.

Marcus chucky Thorton and Tyler 8'8 reach zeller. Wow what a move.

The 1st is the main thing that matters.  This is a fair trade. Its not like danny robbed anybody

Danny needs to keep going .  As long as we get a legit rim protector worse case , things will turn around

If someone else had just gotten Zeller and a 1st rounder for nothing, you'd be raking Danny over the coals again for missing out.

I mean, you criticize him for not getting Lou Williams and then dismiss this? All while complaining about how Danny has failed to address our "serious needs upfront"?

This is goal-post-moving and logical contradiction beyond belief.

Agreed on the assets and patience part.
For the guards, just cut two of them and voila, problem solved.

As far as I know the strip down to zero then rebuild to contender plan has only worked once - the OKC Thunder. And so far they have been to just 1 finals. And if they didn't luck into the 2nd pick and Durant, where would that team be? Luck is a gigantic part of tanking for the next superstar.

Considering the Celtics have one all star in hand, i am content with Ainge riding the mediocre line until they can make the right trade for another all star, or a great prospect package. Ainge is in no hurry to settle for anything.

He continues to try to get Love. And Rondo's trade value will only go up as he gets more healthy.

Have patience.

Why do you keep mentioning Asik and Afflalo?  These seem like the exact kind of trades that you are against.  He didn't sign any veterans that can put us into mediocrity as signing these two players could do.  But that doesn't mean he should give away every decent player we have for nothing!

He drafted his highest ranked player left.

He resigned a young improving player to a contract that is looking more and more like the new norm.  (Thank you future TV deal)

He traded for more assets.

He has not just given away assets.

I am happy so far with his patience.

Funny thing is that Asik was expensive get for the Pelicans.

A pick 4-19 is a pretty valuable pick.

People frequently say that but it's only true if rebuilding is done through a draft-only bubble. The truth is that the best way to rebuild is to develop young talent + a culture of winning so as to attract the right pieces to put a team over the top. The Celtics went 24-58 in 2006 and earned the 6 seed but still had Paul Pierce (who was coming off an injury). They had a bunch of trade chips combined with an established star and good coach- enough to appease GMs and star players to waive no-trade clauses and/or agree to extensions.

Danny is doing the exact same thing now. The Celtics have a monumental amount of assets and flexibility moving forward to go with promising youth and a well-liked and respected coach.
