Title: South Park vs. Family Guy
Post by: perks-a-beast on July 21, 2018, 05:13:09 PM
I’m a fan of both shows but I give the edge to family guy.

The thing that turns me off about South Park is the writers. I recently heard an interview with them where they said they “don’t respect the writing of family guy and don’t see it as a legitimate form of comedy.” Something along those lines. I absolutely hate that sort of snobbery. It’s like musicians who don’t respect hip hop as a legitimate form of music because they don’t play instruments. If it makes people feel good isn’t that all that matters? Why do they care how jokes get laughs? Like I can laugh at Three Stooges or Frazier. Since they get laughs in different ways does that make one more legitimate? South Park has always had a cult following of fans who think they’re intellectually superior because South Park is “profound” and family Guy is “for stupid people.”

I do, however, think South Park is a bit better and more consistent now. But in terms of overall Family Guy is funnier to me.

South Park is a smarter funnier show.  It is more relevant, more biting, and just better done.

South Park is annoying-like hearing the same joke over and over.....Family Guy is much better.

to me anyway....but then again, I like Monty Python--while some hate it.

I can’t say South Park doesn’t have family Guy beat in some categories..

Like I said it is a better show RIGHT NOW.

It is good the whole way through. The first 3 seasons of family Guy were weak to me...but I love how the tone and characters and overall humor has evolved

Also South Park is less watered down, less bad episodes. Makes sense because it has around 10 episodes a season. Family Guy does around 20-25.

Family Guy and it’s not even close for me. I also believe it has gotten better and better through the years (the Stewie-psychologist episode this past season was incredible).

I also gave a strong edge to Beavis and Butt-Head over South Park in the 90s (again, a show that got much better with age) so maybe I just don’t like South Park much...which is strange because I have always been a bit obsessed with cartoons.

I feel like I’m in a time warp to 2006.

South Park is more clever and topical, but they’re both usually funny, if a bit stale at this point.

South Park without a doubt. The way they make fun of every single group without pulling any punches is fantastic

Both great shows in their hey day, but if I had to give an edge to one over the other, I'd choose Family Guy.

That said, both shows lost their edge and became stale a long time ago, IMO.

I don't really find either to be funny. But I am in my 30s now and have lost touch.

South Park. They’ve managed to stay relevant by dealing with today’s issues in a very comical way. Family Guy constantly leaves  the plotline for their laughs.

Family Guy. Used to live in RI and love giving my RI friends a hard time about how Family Guy is a perfect reflection of RI people. Lol.

Family guy first 3 seasons were my absolute favorite. I had the DVDs and watched episodes every night on adult swim. The episode where Peter became a jouster at a medieval fair and the episode where the family had to move down south because chris witnessed a robbery are still to this day my all time favorites.
South park I haven't watched in a while but some episodes that stick out are "the passion of the jew", the WoW episode, and the Somali pirate episode.
Either way I loved both shows

The Devil's birthday party with the Lamborghini cake and the 3 serial killers doing a 3 stooges shtick was pretty spectacular.

I can enjoy both, but I've always associated both with really annoying fans. Haven't watched either in over 10 years. Are they still making new episodes?

Is the Simpsons any good anymore? I haven't watched in probably close to 20 years.
