I'll be honest, I remember last off season watching his youtube videos and it seemed like he was in the gym the day after the season ended right at it.  I was expecting something similar this year, but I saw him going to the Paris fashion week and doing some things.  At first I was slightly disappointed, but quickly realized this guy in his first two seasons in the league has played all the way into the ECF in the playoffs.  He definitely needed some time off to reset.

Glad to see him and Tatum are both putting the work in already though, and that Brown was willing to play Summer league even though being a borderline all star this past year.

Also to note Tatum didn't play in summer league this year, but he basically did having played almost every game this season and a deep playoff run.  I'm glad his "summer league" was against LeBron James.

He is an NBA starter he does not need to play against players who are significantly worse than him.  That only helps a guy's ego but often causes his game to get really sloppy.

It gives him an opportunity to work on aspects of his game that aren't overly developed yet.  A lot of people here complain about his dribbling and play making.  Do I want to see him dunking all over summer league players?  No.  Would I enjoy seeing him try to be a bit of a play maker though for others?  Of course.

I doubt Jaylen's mentality when he asked to play was to dominate summer league players.

I also think it's a great leadership move, raises the morale of all the other guys on the team.

You have Philly where a guy like Fultz isn't playing, which many of us believe is to protect his ego, but if Ben Simmons was playing too, you have to think Fultz wouldn't feel bad about playing.

I can imagine Yabusele and Ojeleye feeling a little left-behind or bummed about having to play in summer league.  I recall Gerald Green pouting when the C's asked him to play in Summer League for the 3rd year in a row back in '07 (before the KG trade).  And it just might provide an extra little bit of motivation for those fringe guys seeing an established player choosing to play there with you.  "I'm not here because I suck or as punishment, I'm here because this is a place where you can get better."

Not really, playing against guys who are not on level rarely improves you're game.   Good players like to play against guys at their level or better so they can improve due to the challenge.   He could beat those guys in his sleep.

It would be better for what your suggesting to play ball in pick games against NBA level guys.  That way he is simulating real game situations against the talent he is going to be playing at not a notch or two below him.  Bob Huggins once told me that practice was not any good unless you're doing it in true game conditions and at game speed.   The Summer League would not do that for Brown.

I don't know that of course, as I can't read his mind.   But I know that you're talking about a guy who wanted Lebron to stay in the East so he could beat him.   I suspect Brown is a lot more competitive than people realize.   I think that is a very good thing as it was obvious to me that he worked his tail off between his rookie and sophomore season.   I hope he does the same thing again this year.

Nope. If you can improve your game while being guarded halfheartedly during training, you sure will improve your game in a real game. It is the perfect opportunity to try things out. I'm sure if there's a guarantee that Jaylen won't get injured, they'd allow him to play.

You cannot underestimate how playing in a low pressure environment can help someone get better. Its only bad if that's the only thing you are gonna do.
