Macs obviously going to be better than Brady. Just look at the numbers.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Nobody will surpass Brady. Not Patrick Mahomes. Not Aaron Rodgers. Not Lamar Jackson. Not Mac Jones.

But Mac will surpass Mahomes one day  ;D

Two things:

1.  QBR was not a stat in 2001.  That’s ESPN’s stat, which didn’t exist until a few years later.  You’re giving passer rating, which is different.

2.  Brady was 6th in the league, while Jones is 21st in that stat, because offenses have changed dramatically in 20 years.

It should be 2nd year Brady vs. Rookie Jones

When Jones wins his 3rd Super Bowl as a Patriot, I will start to THINK about comparing him to Brady.

A second year player is vastly different than a rookie. So the easy answer is Jones, since Brady never played his rookie year. And Jones actually won the starting job in preseason, while Brady needed an injury to sniff the field.

My apologies for the mislabeling the passing rating, thanks for letting me know.

I would never even hint at suggesting that Mac will be better than Brady.

This was simply a fun exercise, looking at the start of their career’s.

IMO, Brady didn’t become an elite QB until a few years into his career, where he has made unparalleled growth in every facet of his game, I think he runs faster in his 40’s than his rookie season.

Something that makes Brady special is his freakish poise under pressure. I would actually love to see the results of his heart rate during crucial periods, I would guess it’s freakishly slow.

Jones' completion percentage is very good, undoubtedly. The way he gets his throws out in the blink of an eye is also pretty handy - solid mechanics for the short and medium pass games.

However, I don't think comparing him to Brady is fair

Although TB12 only played one game in his rookie season, he was with the team for the entire year.  He got to know the system and players.  Putting his year two stats to MJ10 isn't really a true comparison.

But, if you are going to do this exercise, show the entire picture:  https://stathead.com/tiny/wmWv8
