The value of trades being proposed in this thread for Zion are ridiculous. Zion is 2nd most valuable player under 25 in the league behind only Doncic. Straight up there are maybe 5 players you would trade Zion for (Doncic, Giannis, Jokic, Davis, and then maybe Durant and Lebron). I don't even think Tatum and Brown together would land you Zion. This notion that borderline all stars and draft picks gets you Zion is just crazy town.
It’s funny you mock other peoples proposals because Zion for soon to be 37 year old lebron would be one of the dumbest trades by pelicans in history of the nba. Come on now.
Lebron is a top 3 player in the world that other players love to play with, but taking it off the court his value to a franchise financially is astronomical. He would bring immense outside interest to your team and would break the all time scoring record while playing for you. Franchise value, marketing opportunities, etc. are so immense with Lebron that any team would have to consider any trade that brought him to their franchise, even as he enters year 19. And he is still a top 3 player in the world so you don't exactly give up the basketball side of it either.
He didn't make an all NBA first team last year or 2 of last 3 because of injury. He will now be a year older. We have also seen how he does with a bunch of young players including Ingram in his first year in LA. I get you love him but are being delusional here. It’s not even close. (Also I’m not even bringing up fact he makes 40 million next year and Zion makes 20 over next two years combined).
ESPN and SI both had him as the 3rd best player in the world for the upcoming season. He has played more games than Zion over the last 2 and Zion is currently injured (and while he should be ready for the start of the season, you may have to question his already questionable conditioning). I'm not saying you'd trade Zion for Lebron (hence the maybe), but you'd have to consider it just for what Lebron can bring to your franchise both on and off the court. Also seems strange you mentioned only Lebron when I also mentioned Durant as a maybe. KD is obviously younger than Lebron but he has been far more injured and doesn't bring near the off court income that Lebron brings. Of course I don't think the Lakers would actually trade Lebron for Zion either (they'd consider it of course), just because Lebron is far more ready to lead a team to a possible title over the next couple of seasons and the Lakers are most certainly in win now mode.
I don’t think durant is as insane because he is 4 years younger. Lebron is 16 years older than Zion and makes 4 times his salary. Again, this is insane. The chiefs wouldn’t trade Maholmes for Brady either. The chargers wouldn’t even trade Herbert for him. This is basic sports.
I think the difference is that you’re looking at things from an on-court production lens. If you’re a franchise owner, you’re running a business. As much as we hate him, Lebron’s capacity to generate revenue for a franchise is unmatched in this league by any other individual player.
Yes. That is just an element that doesn't exist with anyone else. And Lebron is still the 3rd best player in the league by two separate large well respected national sports brands. The players love Lebron and want to play with him. The overall impact someone like Lebron can have for a franchise is just unmeasured especially as he continues to inch up the all time lists.
