He is only 22 and will be entering his 3rd year in the league.  Only Trout and Betts have signed bigger contracts.

MLB needs to limit the number of years of a contract like the NBA does.  14 years is stupid.

Yep, though because he is only about to start year 3, they would have been paying him peanuts for the next 5 years (it takes 7 years to hit free agency).  So the Padres are paying him a lot more over the next 5 years than they otherwise would have, which is also why Tatis would agree to a contract like that.  Way more money sooner which obviously has way more value long term.
