LOL Smart told Tatum to jump across and steal the tap on that jump ball late in the game.  His head is always in the game.

Great Win---everything was going against us---overcame large deficit...GS had nothing to lose.
These games teach you how to win the close ones....We'd be 11-0 if it weren't for that Screw Job by the refs in the first half at Philly to open the season.

I don't think we were winning that game based on how the interior presence between the two teams were in that game.

As promised, I tracked Jayson Tatum's plays in the fourth quarter. Enjoy!

1. Made no attempt to hit the roll man in Theis at 11:27, it would've either resulted in a Theis layup/dunk or an open corner three.
2. Missed the easy pass to an open Carsen Edwards and attempted a nonsensical crosscourt pass to Smart at 11:26 that ended up in the stands.
3. Chose not to pull up for a wide open three off the pick at 11:01 and ended up shooting a contested sidestep three with a hand in his face.
4. Good decision to drop and cover the big at 10:10 after getting caught on a screen.
5. Poor attempt to play the passing lane at 8:59 and let legendary rim attacker Draymond Green blow by him like an ice cream cone after whiffing the pass.
6. Good decision to drift to the wing during the Smart drive to receive a kickout, but opted to shoot a contested midrange pullup instead of swinging the ball to an open Walker after the pump fake, or barrel into the lane for a closer shot/draw a foul at 8:36.
7. Missed a wide open Smart at 8:32, and made a poor pass to Walker at 8:30 (also a good option since he was open, but the pass was absolute Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.). Good positioning while jockeying for a possible offensive rebound though.
8. Hits an open corner three at 8:01.
9. Lets his man seal inside positioning for the tip in when trying to grab the defensive rebound at 7:37.
10. Good awareness to intercept the crosscourt pass at 7:10.
11. Makes an awful bounce pass on the fastbreak that would make young Dirk Nowitzki look like prime Magic Johnson at 7:06.
12. Good contest at 6:47.
13. No awareness to roll hard to the rim and seal his smaller defender/position himself for a post up after the switch at 5:03.
14. Nice seal to establish deep paint position at 4:32 to draw the foul.
15. Missed high leverage pass to Brown for a layup at 3:24.
16. Missed a lob to Theis at 3:19.
17. Should've shot the three after the pass fake at 3:00 and missed a wide open Smart in the corner at 2:57 during the drive.
18. No intention of playing any help defense at 2:00 on the GSW drive. Good tip that contributed to the team defensive rebound though.
19. Delayed and weak pass to Theis in the PnR, allowing Green to help and bust up the two man game.
20. Great play to steal the tip for the easy dunk, but was Luke Shaw to Smart's Jose Mourinho for that play.
21. Could've thrown a behind the back pass to Kemba in the corner for an open three at 1:08, but the midrange shot was okay.
22. Good help defense with the dig steal to initiate the fast break at 1:02, but inexplicably did a pirouette to slow down the attack, although he made an advanced interior pass to Theis.

I feel bad for Kemba.  He's 29 and had very few ESPN telecasted games. Wow!

Hopefully he has more in the next 3 years than he could ever hope for.  Especially in May and June.

sounds like someone with an irrational hatred of Tatum trying to rationalize it by nitpicking every poor decision. If we wanted to, we could analyze every mistake Kemba or any other player on this team made that didnt result in points.

Every fan that watched our opening game (Celtics, 76ers, or neutral) has good reason to complain about the refs. They were brutal and ruined the flow of the game for both teams
I'm bitter.

An irrational hatred of Tatum? So crediting him when he made a good play while calling him out for bad plays is called hating on him+a jaded ranting huh. You can call me nitpicking, but that's what I tracked from Tatum, and I had a much more positive review of him (as well as Jaylen/Hayward) in another tracking I did of in the Toronto game. Just because your baby played badly doesn't mean that he's not subject to reasonable criticism lol, and I certainly believe that I'm not irrationally hating on his play if you actually read into what I posted. Maybe spend the time to actually rewatch the game and pore over the plays I mentioned in my post?

First of all TP to you for the summary. Just eyeballing it seems like a mixed bag. His passing awareness/attempts arent really that great, but he made some important plays on help defense.

Yeah I noted those plays and credited him for good help defense (read 4, 10, 12, 22). He just had a play or two where he dozed off, which still makes him a low error defender. The offense wasn't great but he'll be much better with experience.

I still can’t figure out the blind Tatum love and blind brown hate, phenomenon.

Brown has had a far better season - every post is ESPN “Tatum leads Celtics to win.”

Even on CB, if brown ever dare go 1-18 or shoot 35% over the first ten games of a season, there would be pitchforks.

It’s truly a fascinating scenario, I can’t figure it out. Why do people want to dislike JB? Why do people want to like Tatum?
2019 Historical Draft - Golden State

C - Bill Russell/Joel Embiid
PF - Giannis Antetokounmpo/Tommy Heinsohn
SF - Kevin Durant/Billy Cunningham
SG - Bruce Bowen/David Thompson
PG - Isiah Thomas/James Harden

I like them both. I'm giving Tatum a long leash like I gave Brown last year. He needs more time. It's great to see Brown being so effective this year.

I'll clarify my stance before I reply - I'm a huge fan of Jaylen, but I don't dislike Tatum, I like him like any Celtics player who's good and works hard.

I think it's due to the popular narratives driven in sports, people always look for the smooth and skilled guy who can score in a variety of ways. Tatum looks pretty when he uses his myriad of moves to get a shot off, and it leads to people being very high on him due to him passing the eye test with flying colours. Jaylen on the other hand is a raw but athletic wing who doesn't (or didn't) look all that comfortable in handling the ball, so people labelled him as a "poor basketball player" and regarded him as a member of the supporting cast instead of being part of the nucleus of a young squad.
