Holiday is declining his $37.3M player option for 2024-2025 to sign a long-term deal that’ll take him through the 2027-2028 season. Holiday’s extension saves the Celtics several million on the cap next year and aids in keeping together a talented and expensive core.

So basically a 3/$97.5 extension, $32.5 million per year after next year. Higher than I expected, but I love how willing Brad is to pony up for good players. Danny would have probably held off unless it was a more team-friendly deal, and that could have saved us money but it also could have meant that he walked. I'm glad Brad isn't taking that risk with our core.

Wow, did not expect it to be that much. Good on Wyc and the other owners for being willing to pay this huge price tag with the other big contracts and extensions we have.

I believe this means there will be a point at which Jaylen is making more than Jrue and Porzingis combined.

An underrated part of Brad’s strategy is he rarely lets core players play with expiring contracts (see: KP, Jaylen, Pritchard). I think it really helps team chemistry and is really informed by his experience coaching contract year Morris and Rozier.

D. White is an absolute must to resign. He and Jrue are going to be key to a long playoff run. White is so underrated. Locking up Holiday and White with PP really taking the next steps puts the backcourt in great position going forward.

Not crazy about the amount. Jrue is on the older side, so we will need him to stay healthy for this to work out. Jrue is a valuable player for us, but he is still clearly our 5th best player. We really need to hold on to some of our 1sts now, because I have to assume that part of the reason it is for this much/this long is because we can't aggregate salaries in trades. And I definitely think we'll be looking to trade 37/38 year old Jrue making $34M/yr.

Extending White is exponentially more important, so I hope that is not affected. I feel like we might have blown our chance by not extending him last year - White really improved this year and may not want to extend for what we can offer now.

Assuming something similar for DW and a max for Tatum, what does that leave them with for annual salaries for just the starting five? About 200M?

Higher than I thought it would be but when I look at what Mike Conley is doing this season, 3 years older and think about how well Jrue seems to take care of himself, and how well his game should age, I don't think it'll be a contract the team has to worry about.

Great to have the stability.
