TP to csfansince60s for being the first to post in the game thread!!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Celtics!!!!!!
That gives you 1776 TP's. I take that as a good omen!!
frist
I know the Lakers tend to play us tough, but dang, if the Celtics can't beat them tomorrow night, then this team will have to do some serious soul-searching.I agree. Win or tank for the rest of the year. ;D
Must-Win.
No Ball tonight...Beat the Fakers
Most important game of the season for Obvious reasons
fist!frist
TP to Tar for being frist in the game thread!
If this team starts off slow AGAIN, I might lose it.. >:(
It'd be nice to blow out the Lakers in LA. Getting down by double digits is getting old.

Some guy named Green just hit a three for the Spurs....Cavs still slumpin....couldn't happen to a nicer buncha guys.Kings also win tonight and Brooklyn giving OKC all they can handle down the stretch right now.
Good to see Baynes get the start. Think their defense need him to play more.
I was saying generally speaking. I think Baynes needs to play more.Good to see Baynes get the start. Think their defense need him to play more.
Lakers have 6 legitimate bigs (Lopez, Randle, Kuzma, Nance, Bogut and Zubac). If Baynes didn't start, the C's could and still may be run over on the boards if MM got the start as Horford will have a tough time just holding his own.

Man, put Eddie in.
Man, put Eddie in.Who?
OMG the Player's Only stuff on TNT sucks. It would be ok if one of these guys would say something interesting.
i ll never make it though this . My bedtime all ready . Time for breakfast when they finish ...LOL
Kyrie completely uninvolved in the offense. Can't have that
Offense hard to come by for both teams tonightI hope Eddie gets some minutes. Needless to say there might be some PT available for anyone who can make an outside shot consistently.
Morris is a giant black hole. When he is on the court with 4 other bench players....fine. But when Kyrie, Brown and Horford are still on the court with you, you have to move that ball
I would be surprised to see Eddie getting playing time before he is released. Given how many guys are in Portland right now, it wouldn't surprise me that Eddie was signed to be nothing more than an extra body to practice with while the team is on the road.Offense hard to come by for both teams tonightI hope Eddie gets some minutes. Morris shoots a lot, but he's the only one who can seemingly put the ball in the hole outside of Irving.

God, Smart is such an enigma. Both of those jumpers that he has hit tonight looked really good and within the offense. Why can't he simply do this on a more consistent basis, even if it's only to the tune of 15 or so points a game?
Figured he might. He's not there to take up a roster space - they need to see what he can do. Interesting that his career 3pt stats aren't that great - really hasn't gotten much of a chance it looks like. You spoke to soon lol. Eddie looked really tentative there. Trust your game if you wanna make it in the NBA

Ya the problem is who is he supposed to stagger them with? Horford would help but he's ot a guy who is gonna carry a unit by imposing his will. Many say Tatum but asking a 19 yo to be a go to scorer is a bit much. Brown isn't there yet. we don't have a lot of elite offensive players soo theres gonna be a drop off with Irving oout. Hayward will go a long way.
So is Tatum hitting the rookie wall?
Rozier has been horrible lately.

The few times he went to it earlier in the year, the stagger with Horford and Tatum with the second unit worked really well. No idea why we went away from it. With Baynes starting and Morris back, you can spend a good deal of time (especially the start of the 2nd) with a unit of Rozier, Smart, Tatum, Morris, and Horford.
Sois Tatum hitting the rookieCeltics have hit the wall?

How many posts do I have to fix tonight?
Man, can't wait for the Lakers to unload Clarkson. Dude bails them out a lot
Baynes has been out for a really long time. In the meantime, the Lakers are getting shots inside the paint. C's very fortunate to be still in the lead.Baynes is another guy who's been lousy lately.
Clarkson is basically what the Cs need off the bench from the guard spot.
Tatum is just off
Tatum is just off
Yeah, just off. Maybe just a rookie thing.
Randle just bulldozed Brown from behind and no foul is called. Ok then.Brown was asleep. Like the rest of the team....

The refs have been letting a lot of contact go tonight. I prefer that to the alternative of a whistle every 6 seconds.

Brown made no effort, so the ref felt like he didn't deserve to be bailed out with a foul call. That was all on Brown.Randle just bulldozed Brown from behind and no foul is called. Ok then.i was wondering why they didnt call that

What a god awful play by Baynes. He's got the mismatch and plows over the guy. Turn and shoot the [dang] thing - it's a layup. He has sucked recently.

Lol you were saying? That Baynes "charge" was the softest thing this side of Kelly Olynyk that I've ever seen! Completely incompetent.

17-5 free throws. All perimeter shots...very little action towards the basket.
Jaylen just settling for three point shots. Needs to pressure the defense more, especially when they’re running at him. He's doing the opposite of what he was doing well in the first half
That's weird...I just watched Baynes get called for shouldering his way through the key...yet Randle seems to be able to do it without a whistle. Weird.....Two things. Need to fall to draw a foul. Second, they’re going to call that charge more often when big on little. Just the way it goes.
I'm not sure that there are many teams in the league that the Celtics can still beat when they play this poorly. Can't wait for that Warriors game...

Tatum knocked down is a backcourt violation...
We're just a bad team right now. This has the potential to mushroom into a long losing streak if they lose their confidence - and it looks like it's moving in that direction.
We're just a bad team right now.
Al Horford being an all-star is a joke.
We so badly need a playmaker on this second unit. I cannot stomach watching Smart forcing upTatum and Jaylen can both finish at the rim. Unfortunately both are out to lunch tonight.
jumpers and turning the ball over while going to the hoop. Besides Rozier, is there anyone worse than finishing at the rim than Smart?

Yeah... I'm not sure where he's pulling this from. Right now he probably has to be the leading candidate for DPOY with our elite D.
Omg, Brown, you're freaking kidding me... 5 point swing.
JFC. Brown blows th edunk on the perfect feed from Smart. >:(

How the eff is that not a foul for freaking Tatum?!
The fix is in. That's the only logical explanation for how lopsided this officiating is. Such BS.

Pretty obvious push by randle there.

Nope. If you're going to call it at one end then you better call it at the other end. It's called consistency.
ANOTHER offensive rebound?!? Seriously??
4 straight losses, none of which were against good teams. Team is in a tailspin and CBS is clueless how to straighten it out. There's a guy named Hayward who would solve an awful lot of their problems. Unfortunately he's hurt.
If Ainge hadn't made the Kyrie trade, we'd be looking at potentially 3 high lottery picks.
They're just getting outworked plain and simple.
Hoe does Tatum lose the ball while going up for a dunk or layup like 3 times a game?
Ingram hooked Smart pretty blatantly there.
Well, Tatum has officially hit the rookie wall.
HOLY HELL KUZMA BLATANTLY GOES INTO THE FREE THROW LANE FOR A VIOLATION, BUT NO CALL?!Blatantly pushes Morris out of the way and is easily in. F*** this league man
The fix is absolutely in. It is amazing how God awful these refs are. How do you miss that??
AND ONE REFS!!!
0-4 in this road trip with 7 straight losses.Pretty doom is gloom take here. Brown is defunitely a quality 21 YEAR OLD STARTER!
Bench is terrible. Brown is not a starter
Rozier has guts
He might, but reality is he isn't suiting up any time soon, and we've lost back to back games against 2 of the worst teams in the league.4 straight losses, none of which were against good teams. Team is in a tailspin and CBS is clueless how to straighten it out. There's a guy named Hayward who would solve an awful lot of their problems. Unfortunately he's hurt.

I wish Smart passed the ball.
A fitting end to a horrible night. Kyrie doesn't touch the ball
Back to back losses to two terrible teams4 in a row and counting.....this could get worse before it gets better.
Nice work
Marcus should have passed it up to Rozier, but Kyrie not touching the ball is on Kyrie.A fitting end to a horrible night. Kyrie doesn't touch the ball
Marcus trying to be a hero instead of making the correct play.
cant complain about this L, it just didnt go in at the right momentsI think you can complain plenty. Half the team didn't show up and Brad spent most of the night trying to find 5 guys who felt like playing. And they lose to a crap team for their 4th in a row.
Haven’t watched the replay but I’m betting he was denied. With only five seconds to go, there’s no time to work open. Just gotta go with what you have, which unfortunately in this case was an easy outlet to Rozier who could have made a run at the rim.Marcus should have passed it up to Rozier, but Kyrie not touching the ball is on Kyrie.A fitting end to a horrible night. He did an awful job coming to the ball and making himself available.
Glad the worst 3 point shooter on the floor wound up with the buzzer beater attempt. Marcus Smart has to come to terms that he can't shoot the basketball. He thinks he's Steph Curry.
Just play elite D and take the scraps on offense.
It's no doubt why he's such a polarizing player.
Have to play the clippers today
At golden state will be a bloody mess
They never win in Denver
0-4 and a 7 game losing streak
This team has overachieved all year and now is being exposed
For those panicking.
We are still 3rd in the NBA overall and 1st in the East.
In their last 10:
Boston: 6-4
Toronto: 6-4
Cleveland: 3-7
this stretch is distressing and we've got to figure it out but as far as midseason swoons go it could be a lot worse. Tough stretch coming up so hopefully we figure it out.
We could lose the next 3 games and Toronto and Cleveland could win their next 3 (unlikely the way both squads have been playing) and we would be the 2 seed, trailing Toronto by 1.5 and 3 games up on Cleveland.Have to play the clippers today

Probably the last time the Celtics will be able to beat the Lakers as they get two of LeBron James/Paul George/Russell Westbrook next season with Kuzma in their core.lol solid humor after a tough loss

Everyone needs to relax a little bit. Cleveland and Toronto are in the midst of their own swoons. The rest of the east is trash. No need to panic.

Toronto isn't in swoon. They've played pretty good ball all season. The C's on the other hand are way too inconsistent.
Danny, for the love of God, get some freaking offensive help. The kids have come back down to Earth, and they can't be relied on consistently. It's essentially just Kyrie out there for large portions of the game with sprinkles of Morris and Al.
Why did we even end up playing behind in the first place?curious why you want to trade Smart. Thought he played quite well today. Made some bad plays absolutely, but do you really think we get better by trading him?
Could easily be OT had that dunk by JB had gone in.
And yes. Trade Smart.

Cmon that just isn't the case. Smart played well had 22points 8 assists, Morris scored well, Terry hit clutch shots. We had 46 points from the bench. Tonight isn't the night to make this argument.
To be fair, we really didn't get much from Tatum and Brown tonight. Neither played very well, and both struggled on def. I know our bench has sucked a lot lately, but they were decent tonight.

I agree, gotta find a way to use the DPE, but it looks like DA is waiting for a buyout? Hard to know what is going on behind the scenes. Tonight our issue wasn't scoring off the bench though...we had 48 bench points. Tonight it was giving up too many 2nd chance points and just not stopping Kuzma.
Does anyone here really think they are beating the clippers on a back to back and then the warriors?
This is going to get worse before better
So, basically, if Brown and Tatum don't combine to miss several dunks and layups, and the Celtics give up only a million offensive rebounds—as opposed to a bazillion—then they'd have won. Great.
Danny, for the love of God, get some freaking offensive help. The kids have come back down to Earth, and they can't be relied on consistently. It's essentially just Kyrie out there for large portions of the game with sprinkles of Morris and Al.
I say stick with the kids. I mean we arent getting anybody that is gonna put us over the top this year anyway. Lou williams, Tyreke evans isn't gonna cement us a place in the finals or get us even a little closer to a championship. So let the young guys dveelop. They will have bad games like tonight, more than we may like like, but they will also win us plenty of games (we are still in first place afterall) and they will be better for next year when we may actualy have a shot with hayward back.
Only 3 players were + tonight: Kyrie (+16), Morris (+4), and Horford (+2).
Yeah... we need a consistent secondary scorer.
Does anyone here really think they are beating the clippers on a back to back and then the warriors?IDK could easily win the Clippers game. Id expect a win in Denver. GSW is near impossible, but anything can happen.
This is going to get worse before better
Brown needs to be a bench player. Need to get a legit scorer to startthis just doesnt make sense lol
Danny, for the love of God, get some freaking offensive help. The kids have come back down to Earth, and they can't be relied on consistently. It's essentially just Kyrie out there for large portions of the game with sprinkles of Morris and Al.
I hate relying on buyouts. Remember Troy Murphy?
So, basically, if Brown and Tatum don't combine to miss several dunks and layups, and the Celtics give up only a million offensive rebounds—as opposed to a bazillion—then they'd have won. Great.

Even worse, if the refs weren't blind and/or simply incompetent and called the blatant free throw violation on Kuzma, then we'd be in OT right now...
Only way you're getting a scorer is with a major deal and I just don't see that happening. The main objective should be to build next year's team. The 2nd scorer for this season is Tatum and right now he's dealing with the rookie wall. That's why I'm afraid that this stretch of lousy basketball could get out of hand.Bench is just a piece of ****.
That's the main problem, in addition to the inconsistent, lackluster bench. Tatum and Brown have both just come back down to Earth, and I would bet there's a correlation there with our offense.
We need another scorer to take some of the pressure off of Kyrie. We're essentially back to last year's offensive team with Kyrie = IT, but our other guys are just too young and inconsistent this year to help make up for our lack of a true secondary scorer.

I think either one of them would do WONDERS for our team and make us much, much more likely to get to the Finals than playing the kids. The offense simply bombs anytime Kyrie goes to the bench anymore, and having one of those guys would allow us to pretty much always have a designated scorer on the floor.
Smart is playing for a contract but he keeps costing himself money.
We’re looking like Kyrie's Cavs before Lebron.Lol, it was a bad game but this is one of the more dramatic overreactions I've ever seen ::)
I’m afraid that this might be the real Celtics.
Many of those wins we played terrible .We’re looking like Kyrie's Cavs before Lebron.Lol, it was a bad game but this is one of the more dramatic overreactions I've ever seen ::)

We already have more wins than any of those Cavs teams did, and we're not at the All-Star break yet. Come on now
Another subpar Tatum game. In the recent stretch he has not played well.Yeah, I'll be happy when we get the real Tatum back. If somebody only saw the Tatum from the last couple of weeks they wouldn't think he's special. He's definitely dropped a couple notches in the rookie of the year race.
Kuzma is better than Tatum. It's clear that he is ready for the spotlight and Tatum has disappeared. I guess the Kuzma hype is real.I’ve been trying not to believe this.

It’s a bit disingenuous to make this post without also mentioning the fact that Kuzma is three years older than Tatum. That’s a pretty relevant factor in their current play. I have no doubt that Tatum is the much better player long-term.

That perspective ignores reality. It's not just a matter of judging you are ready (which is difficult for a young guy to do objectively). Players also declare to start collecting an NBA salary sooner. I'm not saying Tatum did this and Kuzma did not, but just that it's a false argument to "put up or shut up". Age does matter.Kuzma is better than Tatum. It's clear that he is ready for the spotlight and Tatum has disappeared. I guess the Kuzma hype is real.

I really cannot support the age thing. If you declare for the NBA draft whether you are 19 or 28 you have determined you are ready to play with the big boys. Therefore, in my eyes you are judged one on one whether you are younger or older and whether you are drafted 3 or 27. I hope Jayson does eventually overtake Kuzma but I feel age is irrelevant. Just like the free pass Young was given for years because he was "so young". If you declare for the NBA then put up or shut up.

Stats say Tatum is the better player. Clearly a better shooter and defender and has a slightly higher PER despite a fairly lower usage rate. KK gets more assists, but there's not much else in his favor. KK has also been a below average FT shooter in college and the NBA while Tatum is >80%. Kuzma did have the better game though and the Lakers should be thrilled in any case.

TP for the comparison. I am going by the eye test and looking at strength and confidence and it seems that over the past couple weeks or since he became a father that Tatum has fallen off the cliff. I hope he rebounds soon.
