Could Enes Kanter be a salary dump this summer for tax relief?

On many fora I've heard Celtics and general NBA fans talk about how the Celtics could get out of the luxury tax.

A renegotiated deal with Hayward would most likely be necessary, but additionally a salary dump with Kanter is casually mentioned.

How would you feel about that?

By this do you mean Kanter resigning here for less than $5m a season? If that’s the case I can’t see that being possible, he’s played too well for such money, let alone less

I think he means trading away his salary to clear room under or lower the luxury tax.

I think it depends where the tax line comes out after this obviously revenue-starved season.  It’s quite possible that dumping Kanter still won’t get the Celtics close to the tax.  It’s certainly possible the Celtics will look to get tax relief, but it might be a year where they unfortunately have to eat it. 

Also, cap space could be very limited as a result of a contraction.

It’s certainly an option. I think there’d be lots of teams looking to add his rebounding and inside scoring.

Ya thats interesting, there's a difference between just saving some tax money this year vs getting completely under and saving likely a lot more money going forward. And if the tax line is low enough that you'd have to basically sacrifice your bench to get there I doubt the C's do it, especially if they wnat to compete next year.
