You'd be silly not to take Mutombo, just his defence for 10 minutes a game would be awesome.

But.....with either P.J. Brown or Mutombo you can't go wrong.

Mutombo in replace of Patrick O'Bryant?

What are you guys nuts, PO has, well he's, he's going to, he's got potential.

I'd take Mutombo in a nano-second.

It's tough because if we get Mutombo, I'm assuming that gives us zero chance of bringing PJ Brown back who'd I would much rather have.  I'm not sure if we need a guy whose strictly defense to come off the bench, I'd rather have a guy like Brown who can give a little offense.
do it

Is P.J.'s offense really that much better?  He has more *range* than Dikembe, but does he provide more *offense*?  I'm not sure that he does.

Points per game, 2007-08

Dikembe: 3.0
P.J.: 2.2

Points per 36 minutes, 2007-08

Dikembe: 6.9
P.J.: 6.7

Shooting percentage, 2007-08

Dikembe: 53.8%
P.J.: 34.1%

P.J. is a slightly better passer, but he also turns the ball over more.  Objectively, I don't think P.J. can be called the better offensive player.

Dikembe sipped from the fountain of youth for a few weeks each of the last two seasons when Yao went down.  He put up some serious numbers and is still plenty capable of producing.

Dikembe's an awesome person too.

If he's there for the grabbing, grab him.

To be fair to both guys, PJ was part of the offense and had plays called for him to shoot his midrange jumper and the ball was moved through him. Mutumbo got some more points to be sure, but they were because of his work on the offensive glass getting putbacks for the most part and not because the offense ran through him at any time.

The whole offense thing is a none issue or should be anyway for our bench centers. We need these type of guys to play post defense at the back up center position and rebound on both ends of the court. Scoring has never been a requirement from the 5 spot, but should be viewed as a bonus with our big three in place.

Eddie, Tony and Leon will provide the offense of the bench. 8)

It depends whether we have some sort of secret handshake deal to bring back PJ. And we don't know what Deke has left.

That said, as one of the earlier posters pointed out, I would love to see Deke matched up against Mr. Potato Head Ilgauskas. It seems inevitable we see Cleveland in the playoffs and that is a match-up we need to address. Perk struggles mightily against Z on both ends of the floor and Baby did a nice job pushing him out of the paint, but I'd like to see us put a 7-footer on him and take him out of his comfort zone.

Hmmm.  I'd love to add him to the team if its cassell going, hard to believe but we need scal for sf posistion and his expiring contract.  Our defensive rotations means the c has to jump out to stop the roll penetration then get back to his own man kind of quickly.  Kudos to perk, honestly.  Can Mutombo still do this? probably not.  He does add a great vet presence, is a GOOD person, will help on o & d rebounds, shot blocking of course and defending true centers.
Last year I thought sam was brought it as a backup and mainly to handle the ball against detroit if rondo was out.  ie brought it for a sole purpose against a certain team
sam did that to a point but was overplayed, didn't produce etc
bring in mutumbo to guard Z at the least, fine with me
one has to wonder could mutumbo hit that jumper that pj hit last year?

Backup c is something we need to address for the run, have walker ready for some sf minutes near the end of the season, have pruitt get some burn at both guard spots during the year and  :D Obryant...keep him, lets see what he does NEXT year.  He is still a cheap chance.

follow up:
guy i like that good give us some good minutes and play a definate role (for more than a year) , foster from indy
i don't know what his contract is, what we'd have to give up etc but he's always played well against us and seems to play a good all around team game and have good foot speed for a big with some range
he is however nowhere near the shot blocker than mutombo is
