I will happily admit that re: Jokic vs Embiid I'm biased by the fact that I find Jokic super, super fun to watch.  He does everything I could want to see a big man do on the floor.  He's probably my favorite non-Celtics player in the league.

Embiid by contrast is really impressive and very productive, but I don't particularly relish watching him.

I think you can credibly argue for either.  They're both amazing in different ways.

For me, the fact that Jokic's team's has a better record despite less talent, combined with Jokic being able to play more games, is enough to justify taking him over Embiid.

But they're both great and Embiid is an easy choice for the All-NBA 2nd Team.
I think you can only credibly argue for Jokic if you downplay Embiid's huge advantage defensively.  Defense is still important especially at the center position.  Offensively one big advantage for Embiid is drawing fouls and getting to the line (9.9 vs 4.7 FTAs).  With his workload on offensive and defense, Embiid carries as big a load as anyone in the league.

As for games played, I really don't think it matters since Embiid should have 65+ games played.  Also Embiid averages 33.7 mpg versus Jokic's 31.5 mpg which equates to 4 additional games over 60 games.  As for the Sixers having more talent that me be true now after the Harris trade but I'm not sure it was true for most of the season.

Simmons is better than anyone on the Nuggets.  Butler is as well and has been there the vast majority of the season.  Denver is a much deeper team, which helps tack up wins, but Philly is and has been all season a more talented team at the top.

I put Jokic over Embiid, mostly, for the playmaking. Maybe I should be taking Embiid's defense more into consideration but Jokic is one of the 3 best passers in the NBA. Not at his position, in the entire NBA. He's not just his team's best offensive player, he orchestrates the league's #3 defense as it's best scorer and distributor. Jokic is one of a kind.

Yeah, I went with Jokic and to me it comes down comparable numbers but take Jokic off the Nuggets and they would be a bottom 8-10 team in the NBA.  Take Embiid off the Sixers this year and they almost surely still make the playoffs as a top 5-6 seed.

I'm not actually sure either of those is true.

Looks like Harden is unanimous on the 1st Team but I'm surprised that Giannis isn't.  I know PG13 is a really strong candidate, KD is likely the best player in the world, and Kawhi got my vote over both those guys for the 2nd F spot... but imo Giannis was a no brainer.

So when this looks to have died down I'll post the 2nd Team All NBA Poll.

Right now, this is how the CelticsStrong All-NBA 1st Team is shaking out, with 4 guys looking like locks:

Curry
Harden
PG13 (still undecided)
Giannis
Jokic

Not that we didn't already know this, but Brian Windhorst wrote an interesting article today on the contractual significance of getting voted on any of the 3 All NBA teams. What I found particularly intriguing was the possible supermax openings due to the John Wall injury and the Davis trade demand.

For the poll I went with Kyrie over Curry. Obviously, I voted with my green glasses on, but I do believe he has been better this season.

Irving
Harden
George
Giannis
Jokic

As a staunch Kyrie defender and fan of the Celtics, I would like to agree with you but... Have you, like, seen Steph Curry?

I totally understand your point. I also saw Kyrie outplay Curry in both of their matchups.

Just as an aside, watching Jokic the other night made me wonder what might happen if he got into real NBA shape. He's got a Larry Bird like brain trapped inside the body of a Brontasaurus.

It is truly amazing how good Denver is, and he deserves more credit than anyone else.

Speaking of which, seeing Jokic play against the Celtics, it reminder me of just how good that guy is, and made selecting him for first team all NBA in this poll, a no brainer.

Actually, if you look at the stats, Kyrie is having arguably just as good a year as Steph. Steph scores more because out of his 18 shots 12 are 3 pointers and out of Kyrie's 18 shots only 6 are 3 pointers. But otherwise, the stats are really very close.

I voted:

1st Team
Giannis
Durant
Jokic
Harden
Steph

2nd Team
Kawhi
George
Embiid
Kyrie
Dame

I can agree with this. For the 3rd team nobody has mentioned either Holiday or Beal. I'll take them over Walker.

3rd team
Westbrook
Holiday
James
Griffin
Towns

You're right, their stats are pretty close. And I think Kyrie is, generally, loser to Curry than a lot of others do. I also think Curry is still clearly the better player. Taking his situation in GS and Kyrie's in Boston into consideration, it's hard for me to imagine anyone outside of Boston taking Kyrie over Curry here.
