Wow...Panic in Milwaukee.  Dale Sveum takes over in a tough spot.

Since I live in WI, diehard Boston sports fan however since born in that area for those that don't know, the people here are shocked.  Some are saying its a horrible move.  Indeed it was based on panic unless there are enternal things nobody knows about outside of the clubhouse.

Oops!

Forgot to change the copy and pasted link from the fruit thread.  The chestnut stuff is actually pretty interesting, though it will not offer much insight into the firing of Ned Yost (but perhaps we are just failing to see the forest through the trees and there is indeed some cosmic connection here)

Here's the actual link: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10978893

Yeah, that startled me when I clicked on it.

So the Brewers sign Gagne and promote "Send'em Home" Sveum. I wonder if Theo could convince them to trade for Lugo..........

Are you really improving your team by handing it over to Dale Sveum? I mean the guy couldn't even make it in Boston as a third base coach - and he replaced Wendall Kim!

I feel bad for Yost.  I know this is a business, but the guy took Milwakee from irrelevance to contender in a handful of years.  He won't last long out there, some smart GM will come along and gobble him up.

Absolutely terrible, terrible move.

Middle of the wild card race when the team is already in the thick of it.  Why do something like this that could very easily cause things to flat out implode?  I understand their wild card lead has diminished in recent days but they're still tied for the lead.  In my estimation, they should take three out of their four remaining series.  At the Cubs will be tough but after that, they go to Cincinnati and then have Pittsburgh in Milwaukee.  They wrap up the season against a Cubs team who'll have the NL Central wrapped up by then and most likely be setting up their rotation for post-season play and resting starters.  However, Philly has the easier remaining schedule between the two (ATL twice, FLA, and WSH)

Don't need something as drastic as a managerial change right now.

There has to be some sort of internal reason here.  It makes no sense for them to do this at this time, unless there was some sort of internal struggle, or something that happened behind closed doors.  This is kind of like when the Devils fired Claude Julien, right before the playoffs, after he brought them to one of the best records in the league.  You don't do that just because someone is underachieving, it has to be something personal at that point.

As a long-suffering Brewer fan, I'm surprise at the move but not disappointed.  Yost has continually showed a lack of managerial ability in getting this team to score runs.  Continually putting weak-hitting Weeks as the leadoff hitter for the vast majority of games has really hurt this team.  The freefall has been primarily due to the lack of run production.  Perhaps upper management was pushing for a lineup change that never came.

Brewers have to put it together this year.  Getting CC Sebathia for major prospects with no plan to keep him after this year was an all-or-nothing gamble that has to pay off or heads will roll.

Its probably just a way to get "send em" Sveum off of third base. That alone will probably garner 2 more wins down the strech

Scribbles: where in WI do you live?  I just moved to Milwaukee.  Any good Boston bars around where I might catch some c's games?

Also, as someone late to the brewers season but definitiely into it, it seems like something had to be done, if only for the sake that the office put all their eggs in this years basket.  I agree with slamtheking's analysis...but I am not knowledgeable enough about Yost's tenure or the brewer's past season's to judge.  I just know the last month has been very disappointing and frustrating, and I am barely a fan...I can only imagine diehards' feelings as well as the front office's.
