Prior to the Middleton injury, and even more so after it, the best strategy against Giannis is to defend him in isolation while shutting down his teammates and cleaning up the glass; and draw him out to the perimeter to attack him on defense.

Al’s Hawks implemented a similar defensive strategy against a prime Dwight Howard (Dwight was a consistent top 5 MVP candidate). Dwight put up gaudy numbers and the Magic lost the series.

Make no mistake, one on one against any of our defenders will be no cakewalk, he’ll have to earn it. Then, he’ll have to defend the ball against the offensive player of our choice. By the end of the games and series, he’ll be spent. It’ll be the basketball version of the rope a dope.

I thing GW will do a tremendous job!  He played KD really well, and KD’s height gave him an advantage on jumpers.  If GW can move his puppies and stay in front of Giannis’ Euro “Vacation” steps, then GW will do great.  Make Giannis shoot jumpers over him.

Sticking with what I said before the series started.

GW.  Followed by Al, then Smart

Have you watched any of the series. Horford has been by far the best defender. It’s not even close.

StatMuse: Giannis is 15-49 (30.6%) when guarded by Horford this series. He is 35-65 (53.8%) when guarded by any other Celtic.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

53.8% from the field is actually a good number. It's lower than Giannis' regular season FG% of 55.3%.

Here are the Celtics numbers against Giannis:

Horford 38% in 27 minutes
White 40% in 2 minutes
Pritchard 40% in 2 minutes
Grant 46.7% in 24 minutes
Smart 47.6% in 15 minutes
Theis 50% in 1 minute
Timelord 54.9% in 3 minutes
Brown 68.4% in 9 minutes
Tatum 73.7% in 7 minutes

Our stars are the only players guarding Giannis that are struggling. Everyone else is holding Giannis below his season average.

Fair
Bad
Awful

He is just gonna get his , he is still too young to stop.   Maybe at 32-33 -34 he starts to become somewhat guard able.

Nobody stops Father Time.

I notice from above ,  short super fast guys might bother him ,  he maybe thinking of having his pockets picks too much and looses concentration…having ball poked away .

I say don’t let him get but one dribble and go for the steal.

If they didn't allow that crazy palming that he does, even with the travels, he wouldn't get anywhere...

Palming ?   That’s not in the Star Rule Book  ;).    Wasn’t that Rondos std. Dribble ?

Two rule books     One for anointed stars and one for everybody else.
