Celts get Derrick White for Richardson, Langford, #1, 2028 pick swap

As a Celtics fan, why do I bother getting excited around the trade deadline. Inevitably, it's always a disappointment. Seriously, Derrick White? Do yourself a favor, and don't look up his contract, like I did. I just threw up my lunch.

Based on this trade, I hope and assume Brad is not done.

This feels like a real overpay.

Really? White is 27, 6'4, he's a plus defender and is averaging 5.6 assists playing next to another guard averaging 9 assists. Richardson was good, but this is a nice get. He needs to shoot a little better but he probably will here because he's playing with two big scorers.

I like what I've read about Derrick White (mostly) but that seems like a lot.  Especially given that the pick could still potentially fall in the late teens depending on how the end of the season goes, which would sting - we aren't THAT far out of the woods yet. 

Dude can play though.  Can run some offense, defends.  Historically more of an average-ish shooter rather than the poor one he has been this year, so hopefully better surrounding talent can get him back to that (at least).

For those of you who care about this type of thing, White is an absolute RAPTOR darling:

2019 -- +1.2 offense, +2.2 defense
2020 -- +1.4 offense, +3.2 defense
2021 -- +0.8 offense, +3.4 defense

If you buy that's meaningful, he's a huge upgrade. I always put a lot of salt on that, but it's worth noting when the advanced stats wizards love a guy.

I've posted many times on White.  He can play 1-3, guard at a high level.  Distribute at a high level. 

Look at his stats when Murray doesn't play.  I like White more then Smart. 

I didn't known the 1st was in the deal and that hurts losing Romeo and the 1st.  You'd think someone like Vassell or Walker would be coming as well for that haul.  a 1st and Richardson I thought would be enough.

This is exactly where I’m at. Very confused by the negativity around White. This is a good move for a guy the Cs helped rehabilitate his value in Richardson after multiple down years and the corpse of Romeo Langford who was a throw in.
