Maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone know if Bob Kraft has a camel or an elephant or something?
I don't think people relate to people with alpacas and camels and tigers for pets.
The NBA union is the highest paid union in the world and teams are losing money, which is why they are moving between cities. Now players are trying to be their own GMs too.
The players are going to lose this lockout. It's just a matter of how bad and how soon.

This is the most genius incredibly stupid thing I've heard of in a long time, if not ever. The guy has inserted an ear graft thing in his arm to grow an ear in his arm, then plans to insert a microphone hooked up to the internet so we'll all be able to hear what his arm hears 24/7...I guess assuming he doesn't go somewhere without internet service. I can think of so many things I don't want to hear and virtually nothing I do. He says it's not for him. Ok.

Breaking Bad. Watched it mainly because my former favorite show just ended (The Walking Dead). All I can say is WOW! Everything about Breaking Bad is perfect, the acting is superb, the story is superb, everything is amazing. Blows The Walking Dead out of the water. Can't wait for season 5.

Peaky Blinders anyone?

With no C's on and nothing else to do, been knocking out some extra shows lately:
Ozark season 3 - I feel like they really jumped the shark this season. So the family is running a huge criminal enterprise, and Wendy's mentally unstable hick brother shows up and is quickly fully integrated into the family business? The cut throat, cold hearted lawyer is chummy with the Byrd's most of the season and openly talks business in front of said brother? That would have never happened in Season 1 or 2. Still enjoyable though, interested to see where the story goes next season.
Tiger King - great docuseries, super interesting from start to finish. It's amazing that they could get so much relevant footage of all these crazy people.
And thanks to partially free HBO:
Veep season 7 - I love this show, absolutely hilarious. The series finale worked well too, great way to end the series.
Silicon Valley season 6 - Also love this show, hilarious, but it can be a little stale and repetitive at times, and it was clear they were running out of ideas. HR pitting Gilfoyle and Monica against each other to see who can improve HR scores just seemed too "sitcomy" and also a rehash of Jared pitting Gilfoyle and Dinesh against each other with work tasks in season 1. Still funny, but like I said, thought they were getting stale. Finale was nothing special. Loved the show, but glad they ended it.
McMillions - interesting story, but it really feels like they stretched what should have been a 90 minute documentary into a 6 hour docuseries. Most episodes are boring and really drag. I don't need an hour long life story of every person who cheated the game.
-
Better Call Saul has been great this season.
Strong season for Ozark too. More drama over reality, though. Definitely some absurd plot lines.
Watching Picard now. Still getting a feel on what I think.

I just started watching Patriot on Amazon. Good dry dark humor CIA type thing.
I've also been re-watching Star Trek the Next Generation!

Fantastic show. A bit of shame they take so long in production, though.
Final season of Clone Wars has been fantastic so far.
I've really enjoyed the Ashoka story line. She deserves her own spin-off movie as far as I am concerned.
On another note, only another 9 days until season 4 of The Last Kingdom. Can't wait to see Uhtred slay some more danes.

I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend to see it now vs waiting until season 2 of the Mandalorian comes out.
I did just read Rosario Dawson is supposed to be playing Ashoka in season 2, which is awesome. Which probably means I'll have to start paying for Disney+ at some point since by the time season 2 comes out my year free (via Verizon) will have expired by then.

The most recent episode was really good. It and the final episodes will probably be put together and made into a Clone Wars Darth Maul/Ashoka movie. Having said that, the first 7-8 episodes were just ok, IMO.

Just finished Picard.
Have you ever wanted to watch Patrick Stewart act in a Mass Effect film, except with a less likable crew?
That’s this series. Seeing Stewart in the role again is great in a nostalgic sort of a way, but to me this wasn’t particularly compelling.

Have you finished the whole thing?
I thought the 1st episode was good. After that everything felt really drawn out and boring. I wrote a couple of pages back that to me it felt like it would have been a great 90 min documentary, but instead decided to stretch it to 6 hours. Did you think the whole thing was good?

I'm on episode 4. I'm sure it could've been compressed but I'm just really digging the story & the intrigue. It's drawn me in.

I think it's a great story, but the series doesn't do it justice. I think the filmmakers fell in love with some of the personalities and revealed things backwards in some cases by having those personalities explain things instead of making them big reveals or plot twists. I feel like it's telling the story vs. showing the story.

So it turns out when Jim Croce wrote that song about Leroy Brown it was actually about Uthred Ragnarsson of Bebbanbure.
Just my two cents, but I'm hard pressed to think of a better program on Netflix right now than The Last Kingdom. Every season has delivered. Honestly, I think it actually might be better than Game of Thrones.

Hmm, sounds interesting. Game of Thrones is dead to me after season 8, so getting something similar and good may help me wash the bad taste out of my mouth.

You’ll probably love The Last Kingdom! I like it more than Vikings. Less fantasy elements than GoT but similar gritty medieval storytelling
-
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. The second season of the anime is out so you'll have a good number of episodes to munch on during the pandemic. There's almost 200 chapters' worth of manga as well!
-
With me “home schooling” the kids, I’m pretty up to date on Disney Channel and Nick Jr. shows.
Big City Greens is pretty awesome. Or maybe I’m just decompensating.

I think the reason I never started it was because it looked like Vikings. Vikings wasn't terrible, but it wasn't really worth keeping up with for me. Maybe I'll check it out based on these recommendations though.

probably old news to a lot of people, but I watched part 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Money Heist.
Better than I expected it to be, although it got a bit formula-esque at points in part 3 and 4.
I give it a solid B+
-
The frist part was very good.. The second too but the ending was as you say formulaesque
The next two had some nice moments but it reminds me of prison break... It should end earlier..

Penny Dreadful on Netflix..pretty darn good!! Love horror shows anyhow but great story lines and actors on this one..I’m halfway in season 2 now
-
I'm a sci fi guy, but for some reason had never seen Super 8. The 2011 movie was written and directed by JJ Abrams and produced by Spielberg. Pretty amazing CGI, especially a train wreck near the beginning of the movie. Also, lots of good music. If you like sci fi, it's worth watching despite starring a bunch of kids.
-
just finished Upload on Amazon. interesting concept. a bit of humor and some intrigue thrown in. enjoyed it.
-
Watched Polar (Netflix Original) the other night. Not high quality cinema or anything (action movies rarely are), but highly entertaining none-the-less. I definitely didn't expect the twist at the end with the woman neighbor.
-

I really liked that show. There is a new version out on Showtime, city of Angels. I have only watched the first two episodes, but it seems promising.
-
The last hour of The Plot Against America was really gripping. It sucks that it was the series finale.
-
Since I have more time at nights, I have been watching a lot of different shows (one hour of show per night). These are the ones I have seen.
The Hunters (Amazon Prime)- Years after WWII, American Jews goes hunting for Nazis living in America. Loosely based on true events. Pretty good show with a nice twist. I'd recommend it.
Zero Zero Zero (Amazon Prime)- Different perspective of a major drug deal. It has the cocaine cartel gathering the product, the middle people in charge of bringing the product to Italy, and the Italian mafia and buyer. I like that is shows how globalized the drug trade is. Parts were kind of slow but overall, it was interesting. The theme music by itself is pretty amazing. I'd recommend it.
The English Game (Netflix)- Story about the early years of English soccer (1880's I think). It was Downtown Abbey meet soccer. The concept of the early game and the gentleman vs. working class was very interesting. I enjoyed the professionalization of the sport. However, there was a lot of drama and really slow moving (even for a 6 episode series). If you like soccer and history, I'd recommend it although don't bother.
The Counterpart (Starz)- Just started watching this show but it's a sci-fi about another identical dimension opening up 30 years prior. However, the longer time goes on, the more different each dimension is. Very interesting so far. JK Simmons is a good actor and the concept has me intrigued. Not done watching the show yet. Recommendation TBD.
Bonus: Extraction (Netflix)- Movie full of action. Not a Oscar worthy movie with great story telling, but cool action. Strongly recommend it as a mindless movie.

If you have Disney Plus, and haven’t seen Hamilton, it’s worth checking out. I expected to be disappointed like with a lot of things that get a lot of hype. I was pleasantly surprised.

Plan on watching it today with my friend, who's also a big Hamilton fan. I just hope the censoring is kept to a minimum.

If you have Netflix, episode 3 of Sneakerheads has a pretty awesome scene with Paul Pierce in it. Some very silly stuff. I really needed a good laugh and that did the trick. Legit lol’ing.
-
Ripper Street on Netflix was pretty good. It’s a late 1800s Police drama set in Whitechapel.
-
Hankering to rewatch the Haunting of Hill House.
This year, I also enjoyed Ozark and Mindhunter season 2.
-
I recently got HBO Max. I binged “Raised by Wolves” and loved it. On to Dark Materials first couple of episodes. So far it doesn’t feel any more fleshed out than The Golden Compass . It feels rushed to me after reading the books but expect will get better.

Anybody watched Archive81? It's a creepy, occult / horror mystery series based around found footage in a hotel. I'm about 75% of the way through, and I'm enjoying it. It's not perfect, but I dig the atmosphere.
-
We've gotten into Yellowstone on Paramount+ which is pretty good, but the spinoff show 1883 is arguably better.
1883 pushes the boundaries of decency on the Oregon Trail depicting the conflict between the settlers and cowboys of the time. You do not need to watch Yellowstone (Currently in Season 4) to watch 1883.

I like both shows a lot, although I wasn't the hugest fan of Season 4.
I'm looking forward to the return of Ozark tonight.

As someone who wrote their college thesis on the American Frontier (and the role of the Western in reflecting the American social and political environment from era to era over time), I'm looking forward to seeing if 1883 is for real.
Yellowstone has gone off the deep end, IMO, like many of today's series that simply generate too many seasons and too much content for a pretty simple story line that not-too-long ago would have been delivered via motion picture or "mini series". Instead, they become diluted with silliness and repetition like a Soap Opera.
Beth, in particular, has become ridiculous. She could be featured in Zoolander or Scary Movie and not be out of place.
That said, one is left to wonder.... if Deadwood had been made today in the current climate, would they have finished it properly? My favorite show ever.

I am too as this is literally the only show that has kept my watching every moment. I heard there are 16 episodes in Season 4 and I can't wait until the conclusion.

Has anyone else here watched a show on Netflix called "DARK"? It has subtitles and is German, but it is sooooo good but also very long and intricate BUT worth it.

I know the pace probably adds to the anticipation and isolated feelings, but does it pick up? I started the first episode but it felt like it was dragging.

I'm not usually this out of the loop, but I only heard that Yellowstone existed maybe a month ago, and apparently it's a big deal?

I just finished Vikings Valhalla. It was entertaining, but they doubled down on the Mary Sue aspect, and whatever the nickname is for unflawed male characters.

Recently watched the the Amazon version of Reacher. The fellow who plays Reacher (not Tom Cruise) doesn't say much but he plays a tough guy who I enjoyed. You might want to check it out.

Yeah, TP for fessing up.
Taylor Sheridan is about to own TV!
Current: Yellowstone, 1883, Mayor of Kingstown
Future: Four-sixes, 1932, Tulsa King, Bass Reeves, Lioness, Land Man, Fast
He already has had some hit movie's too; Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Wind River, Without Remorse.
I also like the fact, he writes himself in for some bit parts in some of the shows. :D
I don't want to give anything away, but the 1883 season 1 finale was spectacular!

I'm surprised that 1883 isn't getting a second season. I suppose that 1932 is its "sequel", but I figured they'd ride the money train as long as they could, even absent a couple of characters.

LOVED the first two seasons, thought the third should’ve been broken up into 2 as it felt kinda rushed. Almost like they didn’t get renewed and needed to wrap it up. But still a really fun, mindbending show and maybe the best depiction of time travel on screen I’ve seen.

I found that to be excellent - well worth it for anyone that enjoys action with a bit of mystery/suspense added. Was a bit hesitant based on the actor playing Reacher --> played Hawk in Titans and was pretty hammy in that part -- but he was much better in this role.

I liked Reacher, as well. I thought some of the dialogue was a bit forced. It probably sounded good on the page, but having actual people say some of those lines was corny. But overall, it was a good action / thriller series.

I've been reading there will be a second season of 1883. There was a preview, I believe as a lead in to one of the Yellowstone episodes, where James comes through his cabin door, his two sons were in there, and he had been shot.

Oh ok, so Taylor Sheridan is becoming the Shonda Rhimes of his demographic? I didn't realize he was behind all of these. I loved Sicario and Wind River was good. I have to admit, I started Yellowstone and it hasn't captured me yet.

I usually don’t like the Reacher type genre but I liked the huge bear of a person intimidating crappy people without saying a word . I love weightlifting ( as long as no performance enhancers are used) as an advertisement of hard work. You don’t have to talk to a lot of losers and just watch them lower themselves to you when all you did was keep up the willpower to keep hitting the gym. It reveals a lot of weak character people, in my opinion and then can just smirk those people off.

I think I’m going to wait for Hbo max for the Batman. It opens only 45 days later. It’s hard for me to support it with all the WB nastiness.

Anybody watching Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on HBO? Just watched episode 1 last night and thought it was pretty good, looking forward to watching this every week as new episodes come out. Thought all the actors looked the part pretty well. Tell me this is not a good Larry:
Great seeing all the deeper NBA references (like Donald Sterling's white parties and touching players).
Jerry Buss comes off like a rock star
Jerry West like a jerk
Kareem like a jerk
Norm Nixon like a jerk
Magic as mix of confident and unsure (enjoyed seeing him negotiate his contract).
So far, so good.
Anybody else watching?

Yes, I watched the first episode last night and thought it was good. I’m cautiously optimistic that it will be a solid show, since it’s an HBO series and they typically put out a quality product. Will be interesting to see how they portray Bird.
-
Boston Celtics games :D
-
I couldn’t figure out where I’d seen it posted previously so I’ll put it here. I just watched the Redeem Team documentary on Netflix. Nothing spectacular, but fun to revisit and see some candid behind the scenes stuff - especially the Kobe parts. That Gold Medal game against Spain was amazing. I was really convinced Rudy Fernandez was going to be a star in the NBA after seeing him play. Very exciting game.

Final thoughts on House of the Dragon?
While some of the time jumps were a small bit distracting, I really liked the first season. I would have loved even more detail -- sort of like an extended cut of the season -- but I'm happy with how they set the conflict up going forward. That said, I'll be fine if we don't have to see any more child birth scenes going forward.

it definitely got better as it went along. went from a show I was interested in because of GOT and turned into a show that I now find interesting based on its own merits

Yes! I’m done with dead babies.
The dragon scene at the end paid off. That was awesome. I also am curious how much devastation Rhaenyra is going to seek. Destroy King’s Landing like Dany?
I know I could prob read the books, but that seems like it would take too much time. I tried the first one and got instantly bored. The show is great for 1 hr per week. I’m not looking to get a PHD in the ways of George Martin, who seems like a weirdo. Love the show!

one of my favorites. wasn't happy with the move from over the air broadcasting but it seems to have given them more creative license.

Just watched all 7 episodes of The Watcher on Netflix. It's a drama series based on a true story about a family that gets harassed after buying a large, historic house in a New Jersey suburb. Really creepy and had a great cast.

Re-watching the Sopranos (whilst slowly walking House of the Dragon & Sandman). Man, that show is so dang good!
Gandolfini is terrific.

Question: is Yellowstone starting to jump the shark? I didn't enjoy last season's story line. I was enjoying this season until they brought Summer back. She's just a stupid character.

Devil's Hour.
I liked this series from the first episode, but the last episode that tied it together was particularly excellent. I'm definitely left wanting another season to come soon.
I don't want to spoil anything, but it's got a vibe very similar to Netflix's Dark. Just pay attention, suspend disbelief, and enjoy.
